This position promotes and supports the learning experience of Marian University students by supporting the day-to-day operations of the Sabre Cafe coffee shop and Special Events. This position is the day-to-day manager on the floor, supporting the Café’s “front of the house” team and troubleshooting issues as they occur. Additionally, this position will support the special events department with a primary focus on EAA campus operations and secondary focus on event set-up, tear-down, and front of house duties.

Essential Functions:

Sabre Café Manager – 70%

• Coordinate overall day-to-day operations of the Coffee Shop.
• Responsible for managing food and supplies necessary for efficient operations of Sabre Café (i.e., inventory tracking, ordering, storage).
• Assist with administrative duties involving budget tracking reports; reviews financial information such as sales, inventory and costs. Reviews financial information such as sales, inventory and costs with Director of Hospitality.
• Oversee Sabre Café student employment hiring, training and scheduling of staff.
• Respond to guest and community inquiries to develop marketing and advertising to enhance and strengthen relationships and services in collaboration with the Director of Hospitality.
• Oversees organization, efficiency and policies pertaining to both office duties and service in Sabre Café.
• Ensure the safe use of equipment and maintaining food prep/service sanitation guidelines; performs daily inspections and periodic audits to check safety of equipment.
• Keeps up to date knowledge of food and beverage items on menu.
• Promotes cooperative effort, team spirit and good morale among employees.
• Documents, investigates, and resolves all employee and guests’ incidents.
• Inspects Sabre Cafe and storage areas to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Reviews financial information such as sales, inventory and costs.

Special Events Support – 30%

• Manage the EAA booking and lodging system, including entering and maintaining accurate reservation data.
• Prepare and process lodging contracts, ensuring all terms and agreements are documented and signed.
• Monitor availability and update the system to prevent double bookings or overbooking.
• Serve as the primary contact for guests booking through the EAA lodging system.
• Respond promptly to inquiries, reservation changes, and cancellation requests.
• Address and resolve booking conflicts, guest concerns, or special accommodations with professionalism and efficiency.
• Coordinate with campus housing, custodial, and facilities teams to ensure guest rooms and common spaces are prepared.
• Communicate with EAA officials, university partners, and guests to ensure policies and procedures are followed.
• Maintain accurate reports on reservations, occupancy, payments, and issues for departmental leadership.
• Maintain confidentiality of guest and financial records.
• Escalate unresolved disputes or complex issues to the Director of Hospitality as needed.
• Assists with set-up, tear-down, and other support services for all University events, including a) special events to promote the University’s external image, b) internal events such as graduations, award dinners, validation, pinning ceremonies, etc. and c) summer conferences such as EAA, CSA Retreat, etc.

Other Responsibility:

• Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
• Seasonal peak workload during EAA AirVenture and similar events.
• Evening and weekend hours may be required during event operations.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

• High school diploma or GED with special consideration given to those with additional education. A degree in Business Administration or Business Management is preferred.
• Experience working in the food or hospitality industry. Managerial experience preferred.
• Must have a ServSafe license and be aware of regulations concerning food health and safety.
• Proven food service management skills with exemplary organizational, time management, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to develop effective working relationships and team development.
• Organizational skills, interpersonal communication skills and public speaking experience.
• Willingness to support the Mission and Core Values of the College.
• Strong organizational, planning, written, listening and oral communication, interpersonal, computer and time management skills.

Preferred Education, Education, Experience and Skills:

• A degree in Business Administration or Business Management is preferred.
• 3-5 years working in the hospitality industry. Managerial experience preferred.

Hourly Rate: $20.00 – 22.00/Hour
