Which companies in Illinois sponsor visas for support engineers?
Chicago-based employers including Motorola Solutions, Zebra Technologies, Relativity, and large financial technology firms like Morningstar and Avant have sponsored work visas for support engineers. Enterprise software companies and managed service providers in the Chicago metro area account for most sponsorship activity. Healthcare IT companies in the broader Illinois market also hire support engineers and have a track record of H-1B visa sponsorship.
Which visa types are most common for support engineer roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa for support engineers in Illinois, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field such as computer science, information systems, or engineering. Some employers also sponsor TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals with qualifying engineering or computer science credentials. E-3 visas are an option for Australian citizens meeting the same specialty occupation standard.
Which cities in Illinois have the most support engineer sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the overwhelming majority of support engineer sponsorship jobs in Illinois, particularly in neighborhoods like the West Loop and River North where technology and financial services firms cluster. Schaumburg and Lisle in the suburban northwest corridor are also notable, with companies like Motorola Solutions and several enterprise tech firms maintaining significant engineering headcounts there. Champaign occasionally sees openings tied to university-affiliated tech organizations.
How to find support engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have a verified history of visa sponsorship, making it easier to identify support engineer openings in Illinois without sorting through postings that won't consider candidates needing authorization. You can filter by state and role to surface relevant Illinois opportunities. Focusing your search on established technology, fintech, and healthcare IT employers in the Chicago metro area tends to yield the most sponsorship-eligible support engineer positions.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for support engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Illinois employers must comply with Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements when filing an H-1B Labor Condition Application, and Chicago's tech market commands wages that are generally competitive with national averages for support engineers, which helps meet that threshold. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Illinois Institute of Technology produce a steady pipeline of international graduates who often seek sponsorship in the state. Employers in Illinois are also subject to state labor posting requirements as part of the LCA process.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored support engineer jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
