Which companies sponsor visas for business development managers in Puerto Rico?
The most active sponsors for business development manager roles in Puerto Rico tend to be large pharmaceutical and medical device companies with island operations, such as AbbVie, Amgen, and Johnson & Johnson, alongside financial services firms like Popular, Inc. and Banco Santander Puerto Rico. Hospitality conglomerates and tourism operators in San Juan also periodically sponsor BDM talent, particularly for roles tied to international account management or regional market expansion.
Which visa types are most common for business development manager roles in Puerto Rico?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for business development manager positions in Puerto Rico, provided the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in a related field such as business administration, marketing, or finance and qualifies as a specialty occupation. Multinational candidates moving from a parent company abroad may be eligible for an L-1B or L-1A intracompany transferee visa. Executives or investors tied to treaty countries may also qualify for E-1 or E-2 classification depending on the employer structure.
Which cities in Puerto Rico have the most business development manager sponsorship jobs?
San Juan accounts for the overwhelming majority of business development manager sponsorship opportunities in Puerto Rico. The metropolitan area, including Guaynabo and Bayamon, houses the headquarters of major financial institutions, pharmaceutical distributors, and technology service firms. Humacao and Barceloneta on the island's east and north coasts have pharmaceutical manufacturing campuses that occasionally post BDM or commercial development roles, though corporate hiring is concentrated in the San Juan metro.
How to find business development manager visa sponsorship jobs in Puerto Rico?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates who need visa sponsorship, and it lets you filter business development manager roles by location, including Puerto Rico. Because sponsoring employers are pre-identified on the platform, you avoid applying to companies that don't support work visas. Search for BDM titles alongside filters for Puerto Rico to surface active openings in industries like pharma, financial services, and technology that are known to sponsor in the territory.
Are there any Puerto Rico-specific considerations for business development managers seeking visa sponsorship?
Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, so federal immigration law and USCIS processes apply exactly as they do on the mainland. However, employers benefit from Act 60 tax incentives, which draw foreign-owned businesses and U.S. companies relocating operations to the island, sometimes creating new BDM headcount. The University of Puerto Rico and other local institutions also create a bilingual talent base, meaning sponsored candidates typically need to demonstrate specialized expertise or multilingual market access that local candidates may not offer.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored business development manager jobs in Puerto Rico?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
