Which construction companies sponsor visas in Puerto Rico?
Major construction employers in Puerto Rico include Desarrollos Comerciales e Industriales, Constructora Structural, and various federal contractors working on infrastructure projects. These companies often sponsor H-1B visas for engineering roles and specialty construction management positions. Many firms engaged in post-hurricane reconstruction and renewable energy projects actively seek international talent with specialized skills.
How to find construction visa sponsorship jobs in Puerto Rico?
Migrate Mate specializes in connecting international job seekers with construction employers in Puerto Rico who sponsor work visas. The platform filters opportunities by location and industry, showing positions in San Juan, Bayamón, and other key construction hubs. Focus on companies involved in infrastructure rebuilding, renewable energy projects, and commercial development across the island.
Which visa types are most common for construction roles in Puerto Rico?
H-1B visas are common for construction engineering, project management, and specialized technical roles in Puerto Rico. TN visas work well for Canadian and Mexican professionals in qualifying construction occupations. Some companies also sponsor EB-2 and EB-3 visas for permanent positions, particularly for roles requiring specialized knowledge in hurricane-resistant construction or renewable energy infrastructure.
Which cities in Puerto Rico have the most construction sponsorship jobs?
San Juan leads in construction visa sponsorship opportunities, particularly for commercial and high-rise projects. Bayamón offers positions with manufacturers and industrial construction companies. Carolina and Ponce also have growing construction markets, especially in renewable energy and infrastructure rebuilding projects following recent hurricane damage and federal investment initiatives.
What are the prevailing wage considerations for construction jobs in Puerto Rico?
Puerto Rico's prevailing wages for construction roles are generally lower than mainland U.S. rates but must still meet Department of Labor requirements for visa sponsorship. The island's unique economic status affects wage determinations, particularly for federal construction projects. Specialized roles in renewable energy construction and hurricane-resistant building techniques often command higher prevailing wages.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored construction jobs in Puerto Rico?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
