Which insurance companies in Puerto Rico sponsor work visas?
Major sponsors include Triple-S Management, MAPFRE Puerto Rico, Universal Insurance Group, and Cooperativa de Seguros Múltiples. Many multinational insurers with San Juan offices also sponsor visas, particularly for actuarial, underwriting, and bilingual customer service positions that serve both local and Caribbean markets.
How to find insurance visa sponsorship jobs in Puerto Rico?
Use Migrate Mate to search specifically for insurance positions in Puerto Rico that offer visa sponsorship. The platform filters jobs by industry and location, showing which employers have previously sponsored visas for insurance roles. Focus on positions requiring bilingual skills or Caribbean market expertise, as these are particularly valued by Puerto Rican insurers.
What visa types are most common for insurance jobs in Puerto Rico?
H-1B visas dominate for actuarial, underwriting, and risk management positions requiring specialized knowledge. TN visas work for Canadian and Mexican professionals in qualifying insurance roles. Some companies also sponsor L-1 visas for internal transfers, particularly when expanding operations between Puerto Rico and mainland U.S. offices.
Which Puerto Rican cities have the most insurance visa sponsorship opportunities?
San Juan concentrates the majority of opportunities, housing major insurers' headquarters in the financial district and Hato Rey area. Bayamón and Guaynabo also host significant insurance operations. Smaller opportunities exist in Ponce and Caguas, but San Juan metropolitan area remains the primary hub for visa-sponsoring insurance employers.
Are there special considerations for insurance visa jobs in Puerto Rico?
Puerto Rico follows federal prevailing wage requirements, but local market conditions may affect compensation packages. Bilingual Spanish-English fluency is often required or strongly preferred. The island's unique regulatory environment, combining federal oversight with local insurance laws, creates demand for professionals familiar with both U.S. and Caribbean insurance practices.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored insurance jobs in Puerto Rico?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
