Which technology companies sponsor visas in Puerto Rico?
Major technology employers in Puerto Rico include Microsoft, Oracle, Honeywell, and Evertec, primarily located in San Juan's financial district. Pharmaceutical companies like Amgen and Pfizer also hire technology professionals for their manufacturing operations. Emerging fintech and health tech startups in the Bayamón area increasingly sponsor visas for specialized software engineering and data science roles.
How to find technology visa sponsorship jobs in Puerto Rico?
Migrate Mate specializes in connecting international technology professionals with Puerto Rico employers who sponsor work visas. Focus your search on San Juan's financial and business districts where most tech companies operate. Many mainland U.S. technology companies with Puerto Rico operations actively recruit internationally for software development, cybersecurity, and IT infrastructure positions that require specialized skills.
Which visa types are most common for technology roles in Puerto Rico?
H-1B visas dominate technology sponsorship in Puerto Rico, particularly for software engineers, data scientists, and cybersecurity specialists. O-1 visas are used for senior technology leaders and specialized AI researchers. L-1 visas are common when mainland technology companies transfer employees to their Puerto Rico offices, especially in pharmaceutical technology and financial services sectors.
Which cities in Puerto Rico have the most technology sponsorship jobs?
San Juan concentrates the majority of technology visa sponsorship opportunities, particularly in the Hato Rey financial district and Santurce business areas. Bayamón offers growing opportunities in manufacturing technology and logistics software. Carolina and Caguas have emerging tech hubs, while Aguadilla benefits from pharmaceutical companies requiring specialized technology talent for their operations.
Do technology jobs in Puerto Rico qualify for special tax incentives?
Puerto Rico's Act 60 provides significant tax benefits for technology professionals, including potential exemption from federal income tax on Puerto Rico-sourced income. Technology companies often use these incentives to attract international talent, making visa sponsorship packages more competitive. However, tax residency requirements must be met, and visa holders should consult tax professionals familiar with Puerto Rico's unique status.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored technology jobs in Puerto Rico?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
