Which companies sponsor visas for physician assistants in South Dakota?
Sanford Health and Avera Health are the two largest health systems in South Dakota and have histories of sponsoring international clinical staff, including physician assistants. Monument Health in Rapid City and smaller regional hospitals and federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) serving rural communities also hire PAs and may consider visa sponsorship depending on staffing needs and role criticality.
Which visa types are most common for physician assistant roles in South Dakota?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for physician assistants in South Dakota, as the PA role typically meets the specialty occupation standard given its requirement for an accredited master's-level degree. The J-1 visa is another pathway, particularly through medical exchange programs, though it carries a two-year home residency requirement. Some employers also sponsor permanent residence through EB-2 or EB-3 categories for long-term hires.
Which cities in South Dakota have the most physician assistant sponsorship jobs?
Sioux Falls has the highest concentration of PA employment in South Dakota, driven by the headquarters and flagship facilities of both Sanford Health and Avera Health. Rapid City is the second-largest market, anchored by Monument Health. Aberdeen and Watertown serve as regional hubs with hospital systems that periodically recruit PAs. Rural areas throughout the state also post openings, often with recruitment incentives tied to underserved designations.
How to find physician assistant visa sponsorship jobs in South Dakota?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles open to visa sponsorship, making it easier to identify physician assistant positions in South Dakota without sorting through postings that exclude international candidates. You can search by state and role to surface openings at health systems like Sanford Health and Avera Health, as well as smaller regional employers across rural communities that are actively recruiting PAs.
Are there state-specific considerations for physician assistants seeking visa sponsorship in South Dakota?
South Dakota has a significant number of Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) and Medically Underserved Areas (MUAs), which increases employer motivation to recruit internationally when domestic candidates are unavailable. PAs working in these designated areas may also be eligible for federal loan repayment programs. South Dakota does not have an income tax, which affects total compensation comparisons. Employers initiating H-1B sponsorship must file a Labor Condition Application certifying the offered wage meets the Department of Labor prevailing wage for the region and occupation.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician assistant jobs in South Dakota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
