Which companies sponsor visas for physician assistants in Virginia?
Inova Health System, Sentara Healthcare, VCU Health, UVA Health, and HCA Virginia Health System are among the larger employers in Virginia that have sponsored visas for physician assistants. Academic medical centers and federally qualified health centers tend to have more established sponsorship infrastructure than smaller independent practices, which may have limited experience navigating the sponsorship process.
Which visa types are most common for physician assistant roles in Virginia?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for physician assistants in Virginia, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a master's degree under current NCCPA standards. Some international PAs also work under TN visa status if they are Canadian or Mexican nationals. J-1 visas are less common for PAs than for physicians, but may appear in academic or research-affiliated settings.
Which cities in Virginia have the most physician assistant sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia, particularly the Fairfax and Arlington corridors, sees strong PA demand driven by proximity to major hospital networks and a dense concentration of outpatient specialty practices. Richmond is a significant hub given VCU Health's academic medical presence. Charlottesville and the Hampton Roads area, home to Sentara and CHKD, also generate consistent PA hiring activity with employers experienced in international candidates.
How to find physician assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters physician assistant roles in Virginia by visa sponsorship availability, saving you from manually screening hundreds of postings. Because PA sponsorship is less uniformly advertised than in physician hiring, using a platform that surfaces sponsorship-confirmed roles matters. Migrate Mate aggregates Virginia PA openings so you can focus on employers already prepared to sponsor.
Are there state-specific considerations for physician assistants seeking sponsorship in Virginia?
Virginia PAs must hold a state license issued by the Virginia Board of Medicine, which requires passing the PANCE and working under a supervision agreement with a licensed physician. International candidates should factor in licensure timelines when coordinating with a sponsoring employer, as H-1B filings typically require proof of licensure or eligibility. Virginia's mix of urban academic centers and rural underserved areas also means some employers may pursue alternative visa pathways to fill critical access gaps.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician assistant jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
