Position Summary
Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants (Advanced Practice Providers - APPs) in the division of Hospital Medicine provide care for hospitalized patients at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, and The Rehabilitation Center of St. Louis. APPs collaborate individually with physicians from the WashU Medicine Division of Hospital Medicine.
APPs provide care for patients of varying complexity and occasionally in the event of a clinical deterioration. Which companies sponsor visas for physician assistants in Missouri?
The largest physician assistant visa sponsors in Missouri tend to be major health systems with established HR and legal infrastructure. BJC HealthCare in St. Louis, Mercy Health, MU Health Care in Columbia, and Children's Mercy Kansas City have all historically supported visa sponsorship for clinical roles. Smaller independent practices rarely sponsor, so targeting large hospital systems and academic medical centers gives the best odds of finding a sponsoring employer.
Which visa types are most common for physician assistant roles in Missouri?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for physician assistants in Missouri, as PA roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring a master's degree. Some employers also use the J-1 visa for foreign medical graduates in clinical training contexts, though that pathway is more restricted for PAs. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN visa status under the USMCA, which lists physician assistants as an eligible profession and avoids the H-1B lottery entirely.
Which cities in Missouri have the most physician assistant sponsorship jobs?
St. Louis and Kansas City generate the majority of physician assistant sponsorship opportunities in Missouri, driven by their concentration of large hospital networks, specialty clinics, and academic medical centers. Columbia is a notable secondary market thanks to the University of Missouri health system. Rural areas across central and southern Missouri also post PA openings, particularly through federally qualified health centers that may qualify for certain visa-friendly designations.
How to find physician assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Missouri?
Migrate Mate is specifically built for internationally trained candidates searching for visa-sponsored physician assistant roles in Missouri. You can filter directly by state and role to surface employers who have demonstrated sponsorship willingness, saving time compared to manually reviewing hundreds of general job postings. Focusing your search on large health systems in St. Louis and Kansas City and checking listings regularly gives you the best access to actively hiring sponsors.
Are there state-specific considerations for physician assistants seeking sponsorship in Missouri?
Missouri requires PAs to hold a state license from the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts before practicing, which means international candidates should factor in credential verification and licensing timelines alongside the visa process. Missouri also has a recognized need for PAs in underserved rural counties, and positions at federally qualified health centers in those areas may carry additional federal incentives that make sponsoring employers more motivated to hire internationally trained candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician assistant jobs in Missouri?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
