ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Orthopedic Access Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will independently evaluate and manage patients with a broad spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions, with collaborative support from our subspecialty orthopedic teams. The primary objective of this clinic is to enhance timely access to orthopedic care.
While the clinic will serve patients with a variety of musculoskeletal concerns, those with acute injuries will generally be directed to the Orthopedic Walk-In Clinic. For non-surgical cases, the APP will manage the patient’s care independently at our Prairie Meadow Drive location. If surgical intervention is indicated, the APP will coordinate referral to the appropriate surgical team within the department.
The role may also include performing in-office procedures such as joint injections, depending on the APP’s experience and clinical assessment.
There may also be some cross coverage expected in the Orthopedic Injury Walk-In Clinic (North Liberty Campus). There the APP would see musculoskeletal injuries and pain that have occurred within 7 days. This occasionally requires splinting and casting. We provide training for this.
This role requires someone who is organized, motivated, and very efficient.

Which companies sponsor visas for physician assistants in Iowa?
The largest sponsors of physician assistants in Iowa tend to be major health systems. UnityPoint Health, MercyOne, and University of Iowa Health Care have historically hired international clinical staff and hold the infrastructure to support H-1B visa and other work visa petitions. Smaller independent clinics rarely sponsor, so targeting large hospital networks and academic medical centers gives international PA candidates the strongest footing.
Which visa types are most common for physician assistant roles in Iowa?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for physician assistants in Iowa, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a master's degree from an accredited PA program. Some candidates from Canada or Australia may qualify under TN visa or E-3 visas respectively, which bypass the H-1B lottery entirely. Employers in Iowa with established immigration processes are generally more familiar with H-1B filings for clinical roles.
Which cities in Iowa have the most physician assistant sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines is Iowa's primary hub for PA sponsorship jobs, anchored by large hospital systems and multispecialty practices across the metro. Iowa City is a close second, driven by the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, which generates consistent demand for advanced practice providers. Cedar Rapids and Davenport also post PA openings regularly, particularly within MercyOne and Genesis Health System facilities.
How to find physician assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship roles in the U.S., including physician assistant positions in Iowa. You can filter directly by state and role to see which Iowa employers are actively hiring PAs with sponsorship. Because Migrate Mate focuses on verified sponsorship opportunities, it saves time compared to manually sorting through general job postings where sponsorship status is unclear.
Are there state-specific considerations for physician assistants seeking sponsorship in Iowa?
Iowa requires physician assistants to hold a state license from the Iowa Physician Assistant Board before practicing, which international candidates must obtain in addition to securing visa sponsorship. Employers typically expect licensure to be in progress or completed before finalizing a job offer. Iowa's rural health access initiatives have expanded PA demand in smaller communities, though rural clinics are less likely to have experience navigating work visa petitions than urban health systems.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician assistant jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
