The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) will be an integral part of our adult Medical Oncology outpatient practice, seeing adult patients with gastrointestinal malignancies as part of our GI care teams.
NPs and PAs see patients at initial consultation and follow established patients, guiding them through their treatment plan in close collaboration with medical oncologists. The NP or PA manages treatment-related toxicities for patients who are going through standard and research-based cancer treatments including chemotherapy, immunotherapies, and targeted therapies. Additionally, the NP or PA provides holistic care and support for patients during all aspects of their disease course. This includes ordering of curative intent therapy, survivorship care, management of long-term treatment-related toxicities, assessment for cancer regression/progression/recurrence, clinical trials enrollment and end-of-life care.
Due to the complexity and breadth of the patient population, the ideal NP/PA candidate requires a commitment to challenging and complex patients, excellent communication, teamwork, and assessment skills. The individual NP PA will work within the GI Oncology Tumor Group. The GI group has 6 care teams comprising of Consultants, NP PAs, RNs and other allied health. These teams are subdivided into the following subspecialty focus areas: Colorectal, Gastroesophageal, Pancreatic, Hepatobiliary and Neuroendocrine cancers with the goal of streamlining patient care and clinical trial enrollment. There is cross coverage to provide support to patients with all GI malignancies. The teams work in close collaboration with colleagues from Gastroenterology, Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care, and other multidisciplinary teams. The NP PA will have a central role on the team to provide continuity for patients, serve as a provider resource for nursing and help with coordination of care across multidisciplinary teams. Our NP PA are true experts in their area of focus.
Once established clinically, the oncology team is very supportive of mentoring NP PAs in other academic and research pursuits. We take pride in working with individuals to identify their professional development interests and foster them. We strive to see our Advanced Practitioners excel in clinical practice, research, and education shields.

Which companies sponsor visas for physician assistants in Minnesota?
Mayo Clinic in Rochester is one of the most active sponsors of physician assistants in Minnesota, given its scale and international recruitment history. M Health Fairview, Allina Health, and HealthPartners in the Twin Cities metro also have established HR infrastructure for sponsoring H-1B and other work visas. Smaller regional health systems and federally qualified health centers may sponsor as well, particularly for roles in underserved areas.
Which visa types are most common for physician assistant roles in Minnesota?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway for international physician assistants in Minnesota, as PA roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific clinical field. J-1 waivers through the Conrad 30 program are another route, particularly for those committed to practicing in designated shortage areas. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals who meet the PA classification requirements under USMCA.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most physician assistant sponsorship jobs?
The Twin Cities metro, covering Minneapolis and Saint Paul, has the highest concentration of physician assistant sponsorship opportunities due to the density of large health systems, specialty clinics, and hospital networks. Rochester is a significant secondary market driven by Mayo Clinic's extensive clinical operations. Duluth also sees physician assistant hiring, and rural areas across greater Minnesota increasingly recruit PAs to address primary care shortages.
How to find physician assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers looking for visa sponsorship, making it a direct way to filter physician assistant roles in Minnesota by sponsorship status. Rather than sifting through general job postings, Migrate Mate focuses the search on employers who have sponsored work visas for clinical roles. This is particularly useful for PAs on OPT or those navigating H-1B timing, where identifying a willing sponsor early is critical.
Are there state-specific considerations for physician assistants seeking sponsorship in Minnesota?
Minnesota requires physician assistants to hold a state license from the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice, and sponsoring employers will typically require licensure before or shortly after the start date. The state participates in the Conrad 30 J-1 waiver program, which places physicians and some advanced practice providers in health professional shortage areas in exchange for a service commitment. Minnesota's strong university pipeline, including programs at Augsburg University and St. Catherine University, means many employers are already familiar with hiring new graduate PAs, which can ease the sponsorship conversation.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician assistant jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
