Which companies sponsor visas for physician assistants in Alabama?
The largest sponsors in Alabama tend to be major health systems, including UAB Medicine, Huntsville Hospital Health System, DCH Health System, and Southeast Health. Academic medical centers and federally qualified health centers are particularly active sponsors, as they operate under structured HR processes familiar with H-1B and J-1 waiver sponsorship requirements for clinical roles.
Which visa types are most common for physician assistant roles in Alabama?
The H-1B is the most common visa for physician assistants in Alabama, as PA roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at minimum a master's degree. J-1 Conrad 30 waivers are another pathway, particularly for foreign medical graduates who completed residency training, though that route applies more directly to physicians than to PAs.
Which cities in Alabama have the most physician assistant sponsorship jobs?
Birmingham sees the highest concentration of PA sponsorship opportunities, driven by UAB Medicine and a dense cluster of specialty practices. Huntsville is a growing market with expanding hospital infrastructure. Mobile and Montgomery also have active hiring, with Infirmary Health and Baptist Health anchoring those metro areas. Rural areas occasionally offer J-1 waiver-based positions tied to underserved community designations.
How to find physician assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Alabama?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by role and state to surface physician assistant positions in Alabama where employers have a documented history of visa sponsorship. This saves significant time compared to manually researching each health system. Migrate Mate focuses exclusively on sponsorship-eligible roles, which is especially useful for PA candidates navigating H-1B timelines.
Are there state-specific considerations for physician assistants seeking sponsorship in Alabama?
Alabama PAs must hold a state license issued by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners and practice under a collaboration agreement with a supervising physician. Employers sponsoring H-1B petitions will need to document that the PA role meets specialty occupation criteria, which is well-supported by the current NCCPA master's degree entry requirement. Rural health shortage areas in Alabama can also open access to J-1 waiver sponsorship through the Conrad 30 program.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician assistant jobs in Alabama?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
