Search Physician Assistant Jobs in TennesseePhysician Assistant Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for physician assistants in Tennessee?
The most active sponsors for physician assistant roles in Tennessee include Vanderbilt University Medical Center, HCA Healthcare (headquartered in Nashville), Ballad Health in the Tri-Cities region, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis, and University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Large hospital systems and academic medical centers are the most consistent sponsors, as they have established HR infrastructure and immigration counsel to manage the process.
Which visa types are most common for physician assistant roles in Tennessee?
The H-1B is the most common visa for physician assistants in Tennessee, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Some positions at nonprofit or government-affiliated health systems may qualify for cap-exempt H-1B filings. The J-1 visa is occasionally used for clinical training placements, though it carries a two-year home residency requirement that affects long-term employment planning.
Which cities in Tennessee have the most physician assistant sponsorship jobs?
Nashville leads Tennessee for PA sponsorship jobs, driven by its dense concentration of hospital networks and HCA Healthcare's national headquarters. Memphis is the second strongest market, anchored by large health systems serving both urban and Mississippi Delta populations. Knoxville and the Tri-Cities area (Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol) also generate consistent openings, particularly through academic medical centers and regional hospital systems expanding their PA workforce.
How to find physician assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Tennessee?
Migrate Mate filters physician assistant job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search Tennessee openings without sorting through roles that don't offer sponsorship. The platform surfaces positions from hospital systems, academic medical centers, and private practices across Nashville, Memphis, and Knoxville. Because PA sponsorship is employer-specific rather than industry-wide, using a filtered search like Migrate Mate saves significant time in identifying which Tennessee employers are actively willing to sponsor.
Are there any state-specific considerations for physician assistants seeking sponsorship in Tennessee?
Tennessee PAs must hold a state license from the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners, and many employers require licensure before or shortly after hire, which can affect visa timing. The state has a notable rural health shortage, and some federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas in East and West Tennessee attract employers who are more open to sponsorship to fill persistent vacancies. Academic medical centers affiliated with Vanderbilt and the University of Tennessee also provide a consistent pipeline for internationally trained PAs entering the workforce.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician assistant jobs in Tennessee?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
