Which companies sponsor visas for physician assistants in Maine?
The largest physician assistant employers sponsoring visas in Maine include MaineHealth (Maine Medical Center), Northern Light Health, and Central Maine Medical Center. Federally Qualified Health Centers and rural critical access hospitals across the state also regularly sponsor PAs, particularly in underserved regions where recruitment from international pipelines is more common due to persistent staffing shortages.
Which visa types are most common for physician assistant roles in Maine?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for physician assistants in Maine, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a master's degree under current USCIS standards. Some PAs working in Health Professional Shortage Areas may also be eligible for the Conrad 30 J-1 waiver program, which allows J-1 visa holders to avoid the two-year home residency requirement in exchange for service in underserved communities.
Which cities in Maine have the most physician assistant sponsorship jobs?
Portland has the highest concentration of physician assistant sponsorship jobs in Maine, anchored by Maine Medical Center and several specialty practices. Bangor is the second-largest hub, with Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center driving significant hiring. Augusta, Lewiston, and Biddeford also have active PA markets. Rural areas like Aroostook County and Washington County see sponsorship activity through federally designated shortage area programs.
How to find physician assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Maine?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship roles in the U.S. You can filter directly for physician assistant positions in Maine to see employers actively hiring sponsored candidates. This is more efficient than searching general job boards because listings are pre-screened for sponsorship availability, which is a key barrier for internationally trained PAs targeting the Maine market.
Are there state-specific considerations for physician assistants seeking visa sponsorship in Maine?
Maine has significant rural healthcare shortages, and many PA positions in the state are located in Health Professional Shortage Areas or Medically Underserved Areas. This matters for visa purposes because it can open eligibility for J-1 visa waiver programs and strengthens employer petitions for H-1B sponsorship. Maine also requires PA licensure through the Maine Board of Osteopathic Licensure or the Board of Licensure in Medicine, which international candidates must obtain before practicing.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician assistant jobs in Maine?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
