Which companies sponsor visas for physician assistants in Oregon?
The largest sponsors of physician assistant positions in Oregon are major health systems, including Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), Providence Health & Services, PeaceHealth, Legacy Health, and Kaiser Permanente Northwest. Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and rural critical access hospitals also sponsor PAs, particularly in underserved areas where recruiting qualified clinicians is more competitive. Sponsorship willingness varies by facility and hiring cycle.
Which visa types are most common for physician assistant roles in Oregon?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for physician assistants in Oregon because the PA role generally meets the specialty occupation standard, requiring at minimum a master's degree in physician assistant studies. Some employers, particularly FQHCs or nonprofits serving underserved populations, may pursue J-1 visa waiver positions or Conrad 30 placements. Canadian-licensed PAs may explore the TN visa under the NAFTA/USMCA professional category, though PA is not explicitly listed and employer legal counsel is needed.
Which cities in Oregon have the most physician assistant sponsorship jobs?
Portland concentrates the highest volume of physician assistant sponsorship opportunities, driven by OHSU's academic medical center, Legacy Health, Providence, and Kaiser Permanente's regional hub. Eugene and Salem offer secondary markets through PeaceHealth Sacred Heart and Salem Health, respectively. Rural Oregon, including Medford, Bend, and coastal communities, generates openings through critical access hospitals and federally designated health professional shortage areas, which sometimes offer additional incentives alongside sponsorship.
How to find physician assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international clinicians and other professionals seeking U.S. visa sponsorship, making it a practical starting point for physician assistant roles in Oregon. You can filter directly by state and role to surface positions at Oregon health systems that have a documented history of sponsoring international hires. Reviewing employer H-1B filing disclosures through the Department of Labor's OFLC database can also help identify which Oregon facilities have sponsored PAs previously.
Are there state-specific considerations for physician assistants pursuing sponsorship in Oregon?
Oregon requires physician assistants to hold a state license through the Oregon Medical Board before practicing, and employers typically expect licensure to be in progress or completed at the time of hire. Oregon participates in the PA Licensure Compact, which can ease multi-state licensing for those coming from compact member states. Rural and underserved designations across Oregon can expand sponsorship options, as some health systems and federally funded clinics prioritize filling shortage-area vacancies with international candidates when domestic recruitment falls short.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician assistant jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
