Which companies sponsor visas for physician assistants in Pennsylvania?
The most active sponsors for physician assistant roles in Pennsylvania are large health systems with dedicated immigration support teams. UPMC, Penn Medicine, Jefferson Health, Geisinger, and Tower Health have all appeared in Department of Labor H-1B disclosure data for physician assistant positions. Smaller regional hospitals and specialty clinics do sponsor in some cases, but large academic medical centers and integrated health systems are the most consistent.
Which visa types are most common for physician assistant roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for physician assistants in Pennsylvania, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Some internationally trained PAs also enter on J-1 visa exchange visitor visas through clinical training programs. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN visa status under the USMCA, as physician assistant is a listed TN occupation.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most physician assistant sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia has the highest concentration of physician assistant sponsorship opportunities, driven by Penn Medicine, Jefferson Health, Temple Health, and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Pittsburgh is the second major hub, anchored by UPMC's extensive hospital and outpatient network. Hershey, home to Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, and Danville, where Geisinger is headquartered, are notable secondary markets with consistent PA hiring.
How to find physician assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate filters physician assistant job listings in Pennsylvania specifically to roles where employers have a demonstrated history of visa sponsorship, saving you from applying to positions that won't consider international candidates. You can search by city, specialty, or health system to narrow results. Because large Pennsylvania health systems post PA openings frequently, Migrate Mate's Pennsylvania physician assistant listings tend to update regularly across both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Are there any Pennsylvania-specific considerations for physician assistants seeking visa sponsorship?
Pennsylvania requires physician assistants to hold a state license issued by the State Board of Medicine, and employers initiating H-1B sponsorship will need you to have or be in the process of obtaining that license. Academic medical centers affiliated with institutions like the University of Pennsylvania, Drexel, and Thomas Jefferson University often have immigration counsel on retainer, which can accelerate the sponsorship process compared to independent practices. PA certification from NCCPA is also expected by virtually all Pennsylvania employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician assistant jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
