Which companies sponsor visas for physician assistants in North Carolina?
The most active sponsors for physician assistants in North Carolina are large health systems and academic medical centers. Duke Health, UNC Health Care, Novant Health, Atrium Health, WakeMed, and Vidant Health (now ECU Health) have each filed H-1B visa Labor Condition Applications for PA roles. Federally Qualified Health Centers and rural critical access hospitals across the state also sponsor PAs to address clinician shortages.
Which visa types are most common for physician assistant roles in North Carolina?
The H-1B is the primary visa category for physician assistants in North Carolina, as the PA role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. J-1 visas are less common for PAs but appear in academic medical settings. Canadian and Mexican nationals may be eligible for TN visa status, as physician assistant is listed as a qualifying TN profession.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most physician assistant sponsorship jobs?
The Research Triangle area, including Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, has the highest concentration of PA sponsorship opportunities due to the presence of Duke Health, UNC Health, and WakeMed. Charlotte is a strong secondary market anchored by Atrium Health and Novant Health. Greenville, home to ECU Health and the Brody School of Medicine, also generates consistent PA hiring with sponsorship activity.
How to find physician assistant visa sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate lists physician assistant roles in North Carolina that are tied to employers with a documented history of visa sponsorship, filtering out positions unlikely to support international candidates. You can search by specialty, city, or health system to focus on roles that fit your training and status. Using Migrate Mate saves time by surfacing relevant PA openings across Duke, UNC, Atrium, and other North Carolina sponsors in one place.
Are there state-specific considerations for physician assistants seeking visa sponsorship in North Carolina?
North Carolina has a significant number of Health Professional Shortage Areas, particularly in rural counties in the eastern and western parts of the state. Employers hiring PAs for these underserved areas may have stronger incentive to sponsor visas. Additionally, North Carolina's PA training programs at Duke, Elon, and Wake Forest generate strong academic relationships with regional health systems, which can influence which employers are most familiar with sponsoring new graduate PAs.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician assistant jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
