Job Title: Assistant Professor of Chemistry

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The position is a full-time, tenure-track position to begin January 2027. The candidate will be expected to teach (12 hours per semester on campus) organic chemistry along with lab, biochemistry along with lab, and general chemistry or non-major courses as needed. In addition, the optimal candidate will develop an ongoing undergraduate research program in biochemistry or bio-organic chemistry that is compatible with our existing biochemical and analytical research programs. The candidate will also advise and mentor students and serve on university committees. The ideal candidate for this tenure-track position will have a passion for teaching, a strong commitment to scholarly activities including guiding research, and a desire to contribute to the academic and professional development of the students.
Essential Functions:
- As an intentionally Christian academic community hiring Christian educators, all employees will be expected to advance the mission, vision, and identity of Carson-Newman University as defined in university policy and expressed in our strategic plan and are expected to work as cooperative and collegial members of the University.
- The University expects all employees to conduct themselves in a manner that is appropriate for a Christian institution and to be worthy examples in moral conduct and behavior for the students of the University and fellow employees both on and off campus.
- Regular attendance during scheduled work hours reflects a commitment to our shared mission and the campus community.
- If applicable, all work must be performed in alignment with the terms of the signed contract.
- As Christian educators, all employees of the University should regularly attend and actively participate in a local church.
- To plan and deliver lectures, develop course assignments and grade student work.
- To advise and mentor students on academic paths and career matters.
- To update and revise current course materials, in addition to developing new courses or programs as needed.
- To support the University through committee service and attendance at required events.
- To conduct the appropriate level of research and/or attend conferences to stay current in field of expertise.

Education
Ph.D. in chemistry; additional post-doctoral or industrial experience is desired. Candidates with experience or interest in innovative pedagogy will be viewed positively.
Experience
Preferably at least 1 year of teaching experience in higher education.
