Which companies sponsor visas for developers in Tennessee?
HCA Healthcare, Asurion, and AllianceBernstein are among the more active Tennessee-based employers filing H-1B petitions for developer roles. Oracle, Deloitte, and Cognizant also maintain a presence in Nashville and have sponsored developers in the state. Healthcare technology and financial services companies tend to account for a significant share of developer sponsorships in Tennessee relative to other industries.
Which visa types are most common for developer roles in Tennessee?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for developer roles in Tennessee, as software development consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. L-1B visas apply to developers transferring from a foreign office of the same employer. Candidates from Australia may also consider the E-3, and Canadian or Mexican nationals may qualify under the TN visa category for certain engineering and computer-related roles.
Which cities in Tennessee have the most developer sponsorship jobs?
Nashville accounts for the largest share of developer sponsorship activity in Tennessee, driven by its concentration of healthcare tech, fintech, and enterprise software companies. Memphis has a smaller but active tech hiring base tied to logistics, supply chain technology, and regional banking. Knoxville sees periodic developer hiring connected to Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the University of Tennessee research ecosystem.
How to find developer visa sponsorship jobs in Tennessee?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can browse developer roles in Tennessee without sorting through positions that won't support international candidates. The platform covers roles across Nashville, Memphis, and Knoxville, including openings at healthcare technology firms, financial services companies, and enterprise software employers that have active H-1B sponsorship histories in the state.
Are there state-specific factors developers should know about when pursuing sponsorship in Tennessee?
Tennessee has no state income tax on wages, which affects the overall compensation picture for sponsored developers and can influence how employers structure offers. The state's developer market is heavily shaped by healthcare IT, given Nashville's status as a major healthcare industry hub. Developers with experience in electronic health records, health data systems, or financial technology may find more sponsoring employers than those focused exclusively on consumer software.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored developer jobs in Tennessee?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
