Which companies sponsor visas for development engineers in Texas?
Texas Instruments, Dell Technologies, ExxonMobil, Chevron, NXP Semiconductors, and AT&T are among the most active sponsors for development engineers in Texas. Defense contractors like Raytheon and Lockheed Martin also hire development engineers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, though some roles require security clearances that restrict sponsorship eligibility. Checking a company's OFLC disclosure data can confirm past sponsorship activity for development engineer job titles.
Which visa types are most common for development engineer roles in Texas?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for development engineers in Texas, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. Some employers also use the L-1B for intracompany transferees with specialized knowledge. Canadian and Mexican nationals in development engineering can pursue the TN visa, which does not require lottery selection and is employer-sponsored at the port of entry.
How to find development engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and lets you filter development engineer roles in Texas by visa sponsorship status, so you're not sifting through listings that won't support work authorization. Texas has a wide spread of sponsoring employers across Austin, Houston, and Dallas, and Migrate Mate surfaces active openings from companies with documented sponsorship histories for engineering roles.
Which cities in Texas have the most development engineer sponsorship jobs?
Austin leads for software-focused development engineering roles, anchored by Apple, Google, and a dense cluster of semiconductor and SaaS companies. Houston is the center for development engineers in energy and petrochemical industries, with ExxonMobil and Chevron headquartered there. Dallas-Fort Worth offers strong opportunities through telecom giants like AT&T and defense contractors concentrated around the Metroplex. San Antonio has a growing cybersecurity and tech presence tied to military and government contracts.
Are there any Texas-specific factors development engineers should know about visa sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage calculations differently than in high-tax states, though Department of Labor wage determinations for development engineers still follow federal SOC code-based standards by metro area. Texas A&M, UT Austin, and Rice University produce large cohorts of engineering graduates, creating strong employer pipelines that sometimes favor candidates already in OPT status. Development engineers in the oil and gas sector should note that project-based hiring can affect visa petition continuity.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored development engineer jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
