Which sports companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in Texas?
Professional franchises and their affiliated organizations are among the more active sponsors in Texas, including teams in the NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS, and NHL based in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin. University athletic departments at UT Austin, Texas A&M, and similar institutions also hire in operations, analytics, and communications roles. Sports technology and sports media companies with Texas offices have also sponsored F-1 OPT workers in recent years.
Which cities in Texas have the most sports F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Dallas-Fort Worth leads the state, hosting the Cowboys, Mavericks, Stars, Rangers, and FC Dallas alongside a growing sports technology sector. Houston follows closely with the Rockets, Astros, Texans, and Dynamo, plus sports medicine and fitness industry employers. San Antonio offers opportunities through the Spurs organization and UTSA athletics. Austin is emerging as a hub for sports media and data analytics, especially with the MLS's Austin FC and the University of Texas.
What types of sports roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship in Texas?
Roles that are analytically or technically oriented tend to qualify most consistently, including sports data analytics, performance analysis, sports marketing, digital content production, sports business operations, and athletic training. Positions requiring a directly related bachelor's degree, such as exercise science, sports management, kinesiology, or data science, have a clearer path to OPT authorization. General operations or event staff roles without a direct degree connection are less likely to qualify under standard OPT criteria.
How do I find sports F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students on F-1 OPT and filters job listings by visa type and industry, making it straightforward to find sports roles in Texas that are open to OPT candidates. Rather than sorting through general job boards and guessing at sponsorship eligibility, Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have a documented history of sponsoring international workers in sports and related fields across Texas cities.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for F-1 OPT in the sports industry?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects net compensation calculations but does not change OPT eligibility requirements. Because Texas hosts a high concentration of professional sports franchises, competition for roles at those organizations is significant and many positions fill quickly. International students should also confirm that their role qualifies as directly related to their degree field, as required under OPT rules, since sports organizations often post a mix of qualifying professional roles and general support positions that may not meet that standard.
