Which government employers in Texas sponsor H-2B visas?
Texas government entities that have historically filed H-2B visa labor condition applications include municipal parks and recreation departments, county facilities operations, and state agency grounds maintenance divisions. Employers in cities such as Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas have appeared in OFLC disclosure data for temporary nonagricultural positions. Sponsorship patterns vary year to year based on seasonal staffing needs and budget cycles.
What types of government roles typically qualify for H-2B sponsorship in Texas?
H-2B classification covers temporary nonagricultural positions, so qualifying government roles tend to be in landscaping and groundskeeping, custodial and facilities maintenance, outdoor recreation support, and seasonal construction or public works labor. Professional or administrative government positions generally do not qualify, as H-2B is designed for temporary, lower-skilled labor needs rather than ongoing specialty occupation roles.
How do I find government H-2B sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate aggregates employer-verified H-2B sponsorship data so you can filter specifically for government and public sector positions in Texas. Rather than searching general job boards, Migrate Mate surfaces employers with confirmed H-2B filing history, saving you time identifying which Texas agencies and municipalities have sponsored temporary workers in the past.
Which Texas cities have the most government H-2B sponsorship activity?
Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas-Fort Worth anchor most Texas government H-2B activity given their large municipal workforces and extensive parks infrastructure. However, mid-size cities with significant seasonal tourism or outdoor recreation assets, such as Corpus Christi and Galveston, also generate H-2B filings from public sector employers managing beaches, parks, and waterfront facilities.
Are there Texas-specific considerations for H-2B government sponsorship I should know?
Texas has no state-level visa sponsorship program, so all H-2B filings go through the federal DOL and USCIS process. Government employers in Texas must obtain a temporary labor certification, demonstrate a genuine seasonal or one-time need, and meet prevailing wage requirements verified through the OFLC Wage Search. Public sector budgeting cycles can affect when agencies initiate sponsorship, so timing applications to align with agency fiscal calendars is worth noting.
What is the prevailing wage for H-2B government jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
