Which construction companies sponsor H-2B visas in Texas?
Texas H-2B visa construction sponsors include large general contractors like AECOM and Turner Construction, as well as regional specialty firms in roofing, concrete, landscaping, and excavation. Smaller subcontractors in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston metro areas are particularly active H-2B filers, often sponsoring crews for defined project cycles. DOL labor condition application disclosure data is the most reliable way to identify which employers have filed H-2B petitions in Texas.
Which cities in Texas have the most construction H-2B sponsorship jobs?
Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Austin account for the majority of H-2B construction filings in Texas. Houston's ongoing energy infrastructure and commercial development projects generate consistent seasonal demand. The DFW metroplex sees heavy residential and commercial construction activity. San Antonio and Austin also have active H-2B hiring, particularly for roofing, framing, and concrete work tied to residential growth cycles.
What types of construction roles typically qualify for H-2B sponsorship in Texas?
H-2B construction roles in Texas are generally non-specialty trade positions with a temporary or seasonal nature. Common qualifying job titles include roofers, concrete laborers, carpenters, drywall installers, painters, demolition workers, and general construction laborers. The employer must demonstrate a temporary need tied to a specific project timeline or seasonal demand period, and the role must be non-agricultural and below the H-1B visa specialty occupation threshold.
How do I find construction H-2B sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate lists verified construction H-2B sponsorship jobs in Texas, allowing you to filter specifically by visa type and state so you're only seeing employers already open to H-2B workers. Because H-2B petitions are employer-driven and tied to project timelines, positions open and close quickly. Checking Migrate Mate regularly and applying early in the hiring cycle, before a contractor's DOL petition deadline, gives you the best chance of being considered.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for H-2B construction sponsorship?
Texas's construction season runs nearly year-round due to its climate, but H-2B petitions still require employers to document a temporary or seasonal need, even in a state without harsh winters. Texas also has a large undocumented construction workforce, which means some employers rely on informal labor rather than sponsoring H-2B visas. Workers should confirm that any Texas employer offering H-2B sponsorship has an approved or pending DOL temporary labor certification before making any arrangements.
What is the prevailing wage for H-2B construction jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
