Children's Mental Health Care Managers provide consultation, education and technical assistance to local Designated Agencies around the Vermont System of Care and how to meet the needs of children/youth with significant mental health needs. Care Managers provide clinical care management and funding authorization to access and/or transition to the appropriate level of care - including intensive community-based services, crisis beds, residential, and inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. Significant work facilitating complex team/family situations and helping treatment teams identify and access the best course of treatment for complex youth. They work with complex, fascinating cases, and can explore and support high quality interventions, but are not involved in direct one-to-one work. This position also participates in regular quality oversight and improvement efforts in the community-based mental health system. Additionally, Care Managers work with state and local partners to address gaps, improve treatment options, and participate in local and statewide initiatives to address the mental health of all Vermonters. Position based in Waterbury, with possibility of partial telework option.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
Environmental Factors
Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting. Interaction with government staff, representatives of other human service organizations, and families and consumers is frequent and may involve conflict and strong feelings. Tact and diplomacy are needed. Frequent travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation should be available. Some evening and weekend work and some out-of-state travel may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree or higher in social work, psychology, counseling, education, or a closely related field AND three (3) years or more of experience at an administrative or supervisory level of responsibility, including programs which provide direct services to children or adolescents with behavioral health needs.
Preferred Qualifications
Licensure in a mental health or related clinical field.
Special Requirements
Must have experience with ACT 264, the Coordinated Service Planning process, and Vermont's system of care. Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
