Which companies sponsor visas for C.N.A.s in Virginia?
Inova Health System, Sentara Healthcare, VCU Health, and Encompass Health are among Virginia's larger employers with established international hiring infrastructure. Skilled nursing facilities and long-term care chains such as Sunrise Senior Living, which is headquartered in McLean, Virginia, have also sponsored foreign-born care staff. Sponsorship capacity varies by facility size and HR resources, so larger hospital networks and regional chains are generally more equipped to navigate the process.
Which visa types are most common for C.N.A. roles in Virginia?
The H-1B visa is generally not available for C.N.A. roles because the position typically does not meet the specialty occupation requirement of a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Most internationally hired C.N.A.s in Virginia come through EB-3 immigrant visa sponsorship, which covers skilled and unskilled workers, or through TN visa status for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose occupation aligns with USMCA categories. Some employers also hire through J-1 visa exchange visitor programs for training purposes.
How to find c.n.a. visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search C.N.A. roles in Virginia without sorting through postings that do not offer immigration support. Because sponsorship for C.N.A. positions often goes unlisted in standard job descriptions, Migrate Mate's curated board focuses on employers who have demonstrated willingness to sponsor, making it a more targeted starting point than general job searches.
Which cities in Virginia have the most C.N.A. sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia cities including Fairfax, Arlington, and Alexandria have high concentrations of healthcare facilities serving a dense, aging population and are home to major employers like Inova. Richmond, as the state capital and home to VCU Health, is another strong market. Norfolk and Virginia Beach in the Hampton Roads region anchor Sentara Healthcare's network and represent a significant share of the state's long-term care and hospital-based C.N.A. openings.
Are there any Virginia-specific considerations for C.N.A. visa sponsorship?
Virginia requires C.N.A.s to hold a state certification through the Virginia Board of Long-Term Care Administrators or equivalent credentialing body before working independently. Internationally trained applicants may need to verify that their foreign training meets Virginia's competency evaluation requirements. Employers sponsoring through EB-3 must comply with Department of Labor prevailing wage determinations for the specific county or metro area, which can influence where facilities concentrate their international recruitment efforts.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored c.n.a. jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
