Search Construction Project Manager Jobs in VirginiaConstruction Project Manager Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for construction project managers in Virginia?
Large general contractors and program management firms are the most active sponsors in Virginia. Companies including Clark Construction, Gilbane Building Company, DPR Construction, Turner Construction, and AECOM have filed Labor Condition Applications for construction project manager roles in the state. Federal contracting firms operating near Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia also appear regularly in Department of Labor disclosure data for this occupation.
Which visa types are most common for construction project manager roles in Virginia?
The H-1B is the most frequently used visa for construction project managers in Virginia, though it requires demonstrating the role qualifies as a specialty occupation, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field. The EB-3 employment-based immigrant visa is another pathway used by employers willing to sponsor permanent residence. Some senior roles may qualify for the EB-1B or O-1 visa based on extraordinary achievement.
Which cities in Virginia have the most construction project manager sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia, particularly Arlington, Reston, McLean, and Tysons, concentrates the highest volume of sponsored construction project manager roles, driven by data center development, federal infrastructure, and commercial real estate. Richmond sees activity tied to state and municipal projects. Hampton Roads, including Norfolk and Virginia Beach, generates openings through port expansion, military facility construction, and shipbuilding-related infrastructure work.
How to find construction project manager visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search construction project manager roles in Virginia without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. The platform surfaces openings from contractors, program managers, and engineering firms active in the state. Filtering by location and role on Migrate Mate is a practical starting point if you need an employer willing to file an H-1B or initiate a PERM process.
Are there state-specific considerations for construction project manager visa sponsorship in Virginia?
Virginia does not impose state-level licensing requirements specific to project managers, though professional engineering licensure can strengthen an H-1B specialty occupation argument for senior roles. The concentration of federal contracting work in Northern Virginia means many employers require security clearance eligibility, which can narrow options for foreign nationals early in their immigration process. DOL prevailing wage determinations for this occupation in the D.C. metro area reflect the region's higher cost of living and should be factored into employer LCA filings.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored construction project manager jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
