Which companies sponsor visas for technical project managers in Virginia?
Northern Virginia's defense and federal IT sector produces the highest volume of technical project manager sponsorships. Leidos, Booz Allen Hamilton, SAIC, Peraton, and ManTech regularly sponsor H-1B visas for technical project managers. Amazon Web Services, which operates major data center campuses in Ashburn, also sponsors this role. Consulting firms like Deloitte and Accenture Federal Services maintain significant Virginia hiring for technical project management.
Which visa types are most common for technical project manager roles in Virginia?
The H-1B is the most common visa for technical project managers in Virginia, particularly among large defense contractors and technology firms that file in the annual lottery. L-1B visas appear in intracompany transfers within global consulting and tech firms. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals where the role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Some employers also sponsor EB-2 or EB-3 green card petitions for senior technical project managers.
How to find technical project manager visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship status, letting you search technical project manager roles in Virginia without manually screening out employers who don't sponsor. Because Northern Virginia has a high concentration of defense and federal IT contractors, Migrate Mate's filters help you identify which of those employers are actively sponsoring rather than requiring existing work authorization. It's the most direct way to target this specific combination of role and state.
Which cities in Virginia have the most technical project manager sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia, particularly Tysons Corner, Reston, Herndon, and Ashburn, accounts for the majority of technical project manager sponsorships in the state. This corridor sits adjacent to Washington, D.C., and hosts the headquarters or major offices of most large federal IT contractors. Richmond has a smaller but growing presence through financial services and state government technology vendors. Arlington is also significant, especially for firms with Pentagon-adjacent contracts.
Are there any role-specific or state-specific factors for technical project managers seeking sponsorship in Virginia?
Security clearance eligibility is a practical consideration in Virginia's federal contracting market. Many technical project manager roles with defense contractors require or prefer candidates who can obtain a clearance, and sponsoring employers factor that into hiring decisions. Virginia's proximity to federal agencies also means employers often prefer PMP certification or equivalent credentials. The Department of Labor prevailing wage for technical project managers in Northern Virginia reflects the region's elevated cost of living, which can work in sponsored candidates' favor when employers file Labor Condition Applications.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored technical project manager jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
