Which technology companies in Virginia sponsor work visas?
Major visa sponsors include Amazon (HQ2 in Arlington), Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Capital One, and Raytheon. Government contractors like CACI and SAIC also sponsor visas for cybersecurity and defense technology roles. Many of these companies focus on cleared positions requiring security clearances, though some sponsor H-1B visas for non-cleared technical roles.
What are the most common visa types for technology jobs in Virginia?
H-1B visas dominate for software engineers, data scientists, and cybersecurity specialists. L-1 visas are common for international tech companies transferring employees to Virginia offices. O-1 visas occasionally appear for senior engineers with extraordinary ability. TN visas serve Canadian and Mexican citizens in qualifying technology roles like systems analysts and computer systems analysts.
How to find technology visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Use Migrate Mate to filter technology jobs specifically in Virginia that offer visa sponsorship. Focus your search on Northern Virginia cities like Arlington, Fairfax, and Herndon where most tech companies cluster. The platform shows which companies actively sponsor visas and provides detailed job requirements to help you target the right opportunities.
Which Virginia cities have the most technology visa sponsorship opportunities?
Arlington leads with Amazon HQ2 and numerous government contractors. Fairfax County, including cities like Herndon and Reston, hosts major defense contractors and their technology divisions. Richmond has a growing fintech presence with Capital One's headquarters. Tysons Corner serves as another major tech hub with multiple international companies maintaining offices.
Do Virginia technology jobs require security clearances for visa holders?
Many defense contractors require U.S. citizenship for cleared positions, making those roles unavailable to visa holders. However, companies like Amazon, Capital One, and commercial divisions of defense contractors offer non-cleared technology roles that sponsor visas. Focus on commercial tech, fintech, and non-defense divisions when visa sponsorship is needed.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored technology jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
