Which companies sponsor visas for development managers in Washington DC?
Federal contractors and consulting firms dominate sponsorship activity for development managers in the DC area. Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, SAIC, General Dynamics IT, Deloitte Federal, and Accenture Federal Services have all filed H-1B visa petitions for development and program management roles. Large technology firms with DC-area offices, including Amazon Web Services and Microsoft, also sponsor development managers through the region.
Which visa types are most common for development manager roles in Washington DC?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for development managers in Washington DC, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in a related field. Candidates from Canada or Mexico may be eligible for the TN visa under the NAFTA/USMCA treaty. Those with extraordinary achievement in their field may also explore the O-1A, though it carries a higher evidentiary bar.
How to find development manager visa sponsorship jobs in Washington DC?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters development manager roles in Washington DC by visa sponsorship availability, saving significant research time. Because DC's market is heavily weighted toward federal contractors and consulting firms, filtering by industry on Migrate Mate can help you focus on the employers most experienced with H-1B and similar petitions for this role type.
Which areas within Washington DC have the most development manager sponsorship jobs?
Most sponsored development manager roles in the DC metro are concentrated in a few nodes: downtown DC itself for consulting and policy-adjacent tech work, Tysons Corner and McLean in Virginia for large federal contractors, and Bethesda and Rockville in Maryland for health-focused agencies and contractors such as NIH vendors. Reston and Arlington also have significant concentrations tied to government technology firms.
Are there state-specific considerations for development managers seeking sponsorship in Washington DC?
A significant portion of development manager roles in DC require security clearances, which can complicate visa sponsorship since clearances are generally not available to most nonimmigrant visa holders. Candidates without clearance should prioritize commercial divisions of federal contractors or private-sector technology employers. The prevailing wage requirement for H-1B petitions in the DC metro is also among the higher benchmarks nationally, reflecting the region's competitive compensation for this role.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored development manager jobs in Washington DC?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
