Which companies sponsor visas for data science engineers in Washington?
Microsoft, Amazon, and Google are among the most active sponsors for data science engineer roles in Washington, particularly across the Seattle, Redmond, and Bellevue corridor. Beyond big tech, companies like Expedia, Zillow, Tableau, and T-Mobile have consistent sponsorship histories for technical roles. Boeing and Providence Health also sponsor for data-focused engineering positions within their respective industries.
Which visa types are most common for data science engineer roles in Washington?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for data science engineers in Washington, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field like computer science, statistics, or engineering. Some employers also sponsor L-1B transfers for intracompany specialist moves, and candidates with extraordinary ability may pursue O-1 visa petitions. Australian citizens can also explore the E-3 visa as an alternative to H-1B visa.
Which cities in Washington have the most data science engineer sponsorship jobs?
Seattle and the Eastside cities of Redmond and Bellevue account for the overwhelming majority of data science engineer sponsorship jobs in Washington. Redmond is Microsoft's headquarters, and Amazon's operations are centered in Seattle. Smaller concentrations exist in Kirkland and Bothell, where mid-size tech and biotech firms operate. Outside the greater Seattle metro, Spokane has limited but growing opportunities in healthcare data and regional tech.
How to find data science engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship roles, and you can filter directly by state to browse data science engineer positions available in Washington. This removes the guesswork of identifying which employers are open to sponsorship. Pairing Migrate Mate with research into companies that have filed H-1B Labor Condition Applications in Washington via the DOL's public disclosure data gives you a strong targeting foundation.
Are there any Washington-specific factors that affect data science engineer sponsorship?
Washington has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage benchmarking since the DOL sets wage levels based on local market data rather than take-home pay. The University of Washington produces a significant pipeline of international graduates in data science and computer engineering, meaning employers in the region are accustomed to sponsoring OPT and H-1B candidates. Washington's concentration of large tech employers also means many have established in-house immigration teams, which can streamline the sponsorship process.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored data science engineer jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
