About the Team
The New Verticals team is building the future of local commerce through expanding our product offerings on our marketplace platform. We launched in 2020 and have since then built world-class operations to delight our customers with access to Grocery, Convenience, Alcohol, and Retail delivery through our marketplace; this team is shaping the future of DoorDash Retail and how we empower local economies across industries like pets, flowers, home improvement and so much more.
About the Role
As a Director on our Retail Strategy & Operations team, you will be the single threaded owner for all consumer initiatives including growth, shopping experience, and co-manage the P&L with our GM of Retail.
You and your team will own high-impact customer initiatives end to end. You will partner deeply with product, engineering, and design to develop both a vision for the future of local retail as well as the tactical steps to get there.
You will work on initiatives that drive customer conversion, generate cross-category adoption, net-new off-app growth strategies, affordability paradigms tailored for a best-in-class retail experience. You will be accountable for the top line number for retail, partnering with finance & cross-functional partners through planning cycles and managing to that line throughout the quarter.
You will report into the GM of Retail within our New Verticals organization and manage a team of direct & indirect reports. This is a hybrid role, with a blend of in-office and remote work including travel cross-country 3-4 times per quarter on average.
You're excited about this opportunity because you will…
- Build. You'll have your fingerprints all over DoorDash's next big business. You'll do whatever it takes to launch, get 1% better every day, and scale something completely new. This means everything from high-level strategy to nitty-gritty operational details.
- Strategize. From first principles, you'll develop a strategy to turn DoorDash Retail into the "go to" way customers shop–from their everyday essentials to fun splurges.
- Experiment. You'll transform strategies into operational experiments that create measurable and actionable outcomes and feed back to your larger roadmap.
- Analyze. You'll assess the operational and financial impacts of your decisions, and use your judgement to balance the short and long term trade offs.
- Lead and collaborate. You'll work with a cross-functional team, including engineering, marketing, design, product, and more, as well as lead and develop your own pod to build.
We're excited about you because…
- You solve problems from first principles. You're excited to solve problems in innovative ways, and you resist "this is how it's always been done" thinking.
- You're equally comfortable operating at 10,000 feet and 1 foot. You don't hesitate to get in the weeds and operate at the lowest level of detail, but you're just as comfortable thinking long-term and inspiring a team. No job is beneath you.
- You're unafraid of ambiguity. Rapid change and learning is exciting to you, and you thrive in ambiguous, startup environments.
- You're consumer obsessed. You balance our three-sided marketplace, but think about the consumer always.
- You are a leader. You have 5+ years of experience managing high-performing teams.
- You have 10+ years of experience. You've succeeded in high-performance cultures (whether in tech, operations, strategy, consulting, banking, or a related experience).
- You have completed your BS/BA Degree.

Which companies sponsor visas for new business development roles in Washington?
Microsoft, Amazon, Salesforce, and Google's Kirkland offices are among the most active sponsors for new business development roles in Washington. Enterprise software, cloud services, and e-commerce companies in the Seattle-Bellevue corridor have well-established immigration programs and routinely file H-1B visa petitions for business development professionals who meet specialty occupation requirements.
Which visa types are most common for new business development roles in Washington?
The H-1B is the most common visa for new business development roles in Washington, provided the position qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field such as business, marketing, or a related discipline. Australians may pursue the E-3 visa, Canadians and Mexicans the TN visa under the USMCA, and candidates with multinational backgrounds sometimes qualify for L-1 visa transfers within established companies.
Which cities in Washington have the most new business development sponsorship jobs?
Seattle and Bellevue account for the large majority of new business development sponsorship opportunities in Washington, given the concentration of tech headquarters and corporate offices there. Redmond is also significant due to Microsoft's campus. Smaller but growing markets include Kirkland and Bothell, where mid-size software and biotech firms have expanded their business development teams in recent years.
How to find new business development visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find new business development roles in Washington that include visa sponsorship. The platform filters specifically for sponsoring employers, so you're not sorting through listings that won't support international candidates. Given Washington's tech-heavy hiring environment, filtering by industry and location on Migrate Mate helps you identify companies actively filing H-1B or E-3 petitions for business development positions.
Are there state-specific considerations for new business development visa sponsorship in Washington?
Washington has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage comparisons since DOL prevailing wage determinations are based on federal and regional data rather than tax treatment. The Seattle metropolitan area is designated a high-wage region, so employers sponsoring H-1B workers in business development roles must meet correspondingly higher prevailing wage levels. Washington's university system, including the University of Washington, also produces a pipeline of OPT-eligible candidates that some employers factor into their sponsorship planning.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored new business development jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
