Position Description
The Department of Microbiology at the University of Washington invites applications for a research faculty position at the rank of Research Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date in summer 2026. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a twelve-month (i.e., year-round), five-year renewable term appointment beginning summer 2026.
The base salary range for this position will be $6,666–$7,500 per month ($80,000–$90,000 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This position is supported by grant and other non-state funding sources.
The successful candidate will be expected to lead innovative and impactful research focused on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, particularly in the context of cystic fibrosis and chronic airway infections, and to develop a productive research program that advances understanding of the biology, pathogenic mechanisms, and clinical persistence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in cystic fibrosis and related pulmonary diseases.
Candidates will be considered across a range of research interests related to microbial pathogenesis, host-microbe interactions, chronic airway infections, and innovative therapeutic strategies relevant to cystic fibrosis and related pulmonary diseases.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant and collaborative research community within the Department of Microbiology and will have opportunities to interact with University of Washington investigators studying microbial pathogenesis, host-microbe interactions, and innovative therapeutic strategies targeting infections relevant to cystic fibrosis and related pulmonary diseases.
University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
Qualifications
Applicants for this position must have earned a PhD in microbiology or a related discipline (or foreign equivalent) by the date of appointment. An MD degree (or foreign equivalent) is also acceptable. Applicants must have a strong record of graduate research, at least one year of postdoctoral experience, and a record of scholarly publications.
