Which companies sponsor visas for nurses in West Virginia?
The largest visa-sponsoring nursing employers in West Virginia include WVU Medicine (West Virginia University Health System), Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC), Cabell Huntington Hospital, and Mon Health Medical Center. These health systems actively recruit internationally to fill persistent nursing shortages, particularly for registered nurses and specialty care positions. Smaller regional hospitals and long-term care facilities also sponsor visas, though less frequently.
Which visa types are most common for nursing roles in West Virginia?
Most internationally trained nurses entering West Virginia use the EB-3 immigrant visa, which allows employers to sponsor nurses for permanent residence through the PERM labor certification process. The TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nurses under USMCA. The H-1B visa is less common for nursing because most RN roles do not meet the specialty occupation threshold, making the EB-3 the primary pathway for non-TN eligible nurses.
Which cities in West Virginia have the most nursing sponsorship jobs?
Morgantown, Charleston, and Huntington account for the largest share of nursing sponsorship jobs in West Virginia. Morgantown is home to WVU Medicine's flagship hospital, one of the state's biggest employers of internationally recruited nurses. Charleston hosts CAMC, a major regional health system, and Huntington is anchored by Cabell Huntington Hospital and Marshall Health. Rural areas across the state also have documented shortages, though sponsoring employers there are fewer.
How to find nursing visa sponsorship jobs in West Virginia?
Migrate Mate is a dedicated job board for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the United States, including nursing roles in West Virginia. You can filter specifically by state and role type to see verified sponsoring employers actively hiring RNs and specialty nurses. Because not all employers advertise sponsorship availability clearly, using Migrate Mate helps narrow your search to positions where sponsorship has been confirmed or is indicated by the employer.
Are there state-specific considerations for nurses seeking visa sponsorship in West Virginia?
West Virginia participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), meaning nurses holding a multistate license from another compact state can practice in West Virginia without obtaining a separate state license. Internationally trained nurses must still pass the NCLEX-RN and obtain U.S. licensure before working. West Virginia's persistent rural nursing shortage means sponsored positions often include rural or underserved facility placements, which can also qualify for federal loan repayment programs for eligible workers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored nursing jobs in West Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
