The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (OSRR) at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an Associate Director.
About the Opportunity
The Associate Director of OSRR supports the Director in overseeing office operations and adjudicating student conduct cases, including Rule 1.6, Title IX, and organizational misconduct. The role provides leadership in fraternity and sorority case adjudication, supervises staff, and manages key administrative, budgetary, and reporting functions. Additionally, the Associate Director advances conduct processes through oversight, collaboration, and the development of strategic initiatives and best practices.

- Wellness programs
Adjudication and Case Management
- Assists in management and adjudication of Campus Student Code cases along with the Assistant Director and Director, depending on volume. All staff members are expected to carry a large case load depending on the type of cases and time of the year.
- Assists in management and adjudication of Rule 1.6, and Title IX cases along with Director, depending on volume. These cases are very detailed and complicated with multiple communications including phone calls, emails, etc. These case numbers are usually high in volume as well.
- Acts as a conduct officer in non-hearing level cases along with the Assistant Director and Director, depending on volume.
- Acts as a hearing officer in hearing-level cases, along with Director. Hearing-level case volume varies based on multiple factors. Hearings may take hours to prepare for appropriately.
- Assists with the proper reporting and coordination of alleged violations of the Campus Student Code by working with Assistant Director and Office Manager to run appropriate reports on the Advocate system, attend Advocate trainings, consult with Director on desired data.
- Conducts research, interviews, and consults as related to assigned cases.
- Assures processes align with relevant OSRR, WVU, state, and federal law and guidelines.
- Assists students in finding appropriate resources to assist them during conduct, TIX, or 1.6 cases. Examples include Carruth Counseling Center, Office of Accessibility Services, access to the RACK, etc. Assisting students in their need for resources is vital to this process.
- Participate in CARE Team meetings when director is unavailable by taking information from OSRR to the CARE Team or bringing information back from the CARE Team to OSRR.
Alternative Dispute Resolution and Other Processes
- Expand and maintain OSRR’s alternative dispute resolution programs, including informal and formal agreed resolutions, educational programming, mediation/coaching, and restorative justice. All staff members who have a caseload are expected to do this as it is part of our mission to work towards individualized educational sanctions.
- With the director, the AD considers cases appropriate for alternative resolutions as appropriate. This is collaborative but all staff members need to be able to assess for individualized educational sanctions.
- Develops and maintains educational and alternative dispute resolution resources and practices.
Operations and Oversight
- Supervise professional and assigned student staff in managing operations of the office, including budget oversight (consulting with Director) administrative support, preparation of metrics and reports, and compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines and laws i.e. FERPA, Clery, TIX, FOIA.
- Assist in ensuring that OSRR staff and investigators follow established laws, protocols, procedures, and timelines when managing cases and investigations by attending Investigator Meetings, utilizing TIX tracking tools, attending TIX trainings when appropriate.
- In collaboration with the Assistant Director, conduct research on best practices, integrate those best practices into the processes of OSRR.
- Engage in data collection and analysis to track and improve OSRR. Continue developing an appropriate assessment plan using data collected directly from students to determine yearly goals, etc.
Outreach and Collaboration
- Assist in educating WVU community on OSRR’s mission, goals, and operations.
- Develops relationships and meets regularly with authorities and stakeholders regarding student behavior and adjudication matters, including responding to and resolving inquiries from students, parents, advisors, attorneys, law enforcement, etc.
- Ensure communication and appropriate partnership with relevant units such as UPD, Greek Life, OCPE.
- As assigned by director, the AD serves on university and other committees.
- Conducts trainings for OSRR, CACL, and other university staff.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in higher education, law, or a similarly related field.
- A minimum of two (2) years Higher Education Experience.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
