Which companies sponsor visas for back end developers in Wisconsin?
Fiserv in Milwaukee is one of Wisconsin's most active H-1B sponsors for software roles, given its scale in financial technology. Epic Systems in Verona sponsors back end developers in health IT. Other consistent sponsors include Northwestern Mutual, Rockwell Automation, and Johnson Controls. Sponsorship activity tends to concentrate among large enterprises with established immigration programs rather than smaller agencies or startups.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most back end developer sponsorship jobs?
Madison and Milwaukee account for the large majority of back end developer sponsorship activity in Wisconsin. Madison benefits from Epic Systems' Verona campus and the University of Wisconsin tech ecosystem. Milwaukee is the state's commercial and fintech hub, home to Fiserv, Northwestern Mutual, and Rockwell Automation. Green Bay and Appleton have smaller but growing tech sectors, primarily tied to manufacturing software and insurance technology.
How to find back end developer visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search back end developer roles in Wisconsin without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. This is particularly useful in a state where sponsorship is concentrated among a specific set of employers in fintech, health IT, and manufacturing software. Filtering by Wisconsin and back end developer on Migrate Mate surfaces the most relevant opportunities directly.
Which visa types are most common for back end developer roles in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the primary visa category used by Wisconsin employers to sponsor back end developers. Back end development roles typically qualify as specialty occupations given the degree requirements in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT extension often use that status to begin employment before their employer files an H-1B petition.
Are there any Wisconsin-specific factors that affect back end developer visa sponsorship?
Wisconsin's back end developer market is heavily shaped by a few large anchor employers, particularly in fintech and health IT, which means sponsorship availability is less evenly distributed than in coastal tech hubs. The University of Wisconsin-Madison produces a significant pipeline of international computer science graduates, creating local competition for sponsored roles. Employers subject to H-1B dependent status rules must meet additional attestation requirements, which can affect hiring timelines at larger firms.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored back end developer jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
