Position Title:
Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor
Job Category:
Academic Staff
Employment Type:
Regular
Job Profile:
Clinical Assistant Professor
Department:
University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee is a nationally recognized research university serving approximately 24,000 students from 87 countries and is known for combining academic excellence with access and affordability. The university maintains strong partnerships with industry, health systems, and community organizations to translate research into practice and to prepare graduates for success in a global workforce. UWM is deeply committed to inclusive excellence and strives to build a diverse faculty, staff, and student community whose experiences and perspectives reflect the populations it serves.
The Kinesiology degree programs are housed in the Zilber College of Public Health and center on the generation, integration, and application of knowledge related to human movement, exercise, and sport across health, performance, and clinical contexts. Faculty and instructional staff engage in high-impact teaching, applied and translational research, and community and clinical partnerships. The programs emphasize student engagement, experiential learning, and career readiness, with extensive laboratory, field, and internship opportunities. Collaborative connections across campus support interdisciplinary teaching and research, as well as certificate and interprofessional training opportunities that extend learning into complementary health, aging, and population health.
The BS in Kinesiology is a multidisciplinary undergraduate program with over 400 majors that provides a strong scientific and applied foundation in human movement and exercise. Core coursework includes human anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor behavior, statistics, and psychological and sociological aspects of physical activity and sport. Students can pursue specialized upper-level coursework in areas such as strength and conditioning and clinical exercise physiology, and many complete supervised internships to gain professional field experience. Graduates pursue a wide range of pathways: roughly half prepare for advanced professional programs such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and athletic training, while others enter applied careers in fitness, performance, coaching, and health promotion. The curriculum is designed to support both pre-professional preparation and immediate workforce entry.
The MS in Kinesiology provides advanced, on-campus graduate education focused on physical activity, exercise, and sport in relation to health, disease prevention, and human performance. The program supports multiple career trajectories, including clinical and applied roles, strength and conditioning, clinical exercise physiology, and preparation for doctoral study or other health professional programs. Students complete rigorous graduate coursework in research methods and specialized kinesiology content while selecting a thesis, project/internship, or comprehensive exam track aligned with their professional goals. The program prioritizes innovative, student-centered instruction, close faculty mentorship, and applied learning experiences, making it especially attractive to educators and mentors who are passionate about preparing the next generation of kinesiology and exercise science professionals.

Which companies sponsor visas for clinical assistants in Wisconsin?
The largest sponsors of clinical assistant roles in Wisconsin include UW Health (affiliated with the University of Wisconsin-Madison), Froedtert Health in Milwaukee, Ascension Wisconsin, and SSM Health. Academic medical centers and large regional health systems are generally more likely to sponsor visas than smaller private practices, as they have dedicated HR and legal infrastructure to manage the sponsorship process.
Which visa types are most common for clinical assistant roles in Wisconsin?
H-1B is the most common visa for clinical assistants in Wisconsin when the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a specific bachelor's degree or higher. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying clinical roles listed under USMCA. Some candidates working through academic medical centers may also encounter J-1 or F-1 OPT sponsorship pathways depending on their training status.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most clinical assistant sponsorship jobs?
Madison and Milwaukee account for the majority of clinical assistant sponsorship opportunities in Wisconsin. Madison is anchored by UW Health and the University of Wisconsin Hospitals, while Milwaukee hosts Froedtert Health, Ascension, and SSM Health. Green Bay has a smaller but active market through HSHS and Bellin Health. Candidates open to mid-sized cities will find that Wisconsin's health systems are distributed broadly across the state.
How to find clinical assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters clinical assistant roles in Wisconsin by visa sponsorship status, so you're not sifting through listings that won't support your visa. The platform surfaces roles at Wisconsin health systems like UW Health and Froedtert that have active sponsorship histories. Filtering by location and role type on Migrate Mate gives you a focused list without the noise of generalist job boards.
Are there any Wisconsin-specific considerations for clinical assistant visa sponsorship?
Wisconsin's academic medical centers, particularly those affiliated with the University of Wisconsin system, have formal international hiring programs and familiarity with prevailing wage requirements under Department of Labor guidelines. Employers sponsoring H-1B workers must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role and location, which the DOL determines based on occupational data for Wisconsin counties. Candidates should confirm that their specific clinical assistant title and duties meet the specialty occupation standard before pursuing H-1B sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored clinical assistant jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
