Position Summary
The Director, New Steam Turbine Generator Projects directs, develops, implements, and manages all aspects of New Steam Turbine Generator (STG) Construction Project execution for Toshiba America Energy Systems. This role has overall responsibility for the successful delivery of multi-year new construction projects involving steam turbines, generators, auxiliaries, and control systems installed across North America.
Provides leadership to a cross-functional organization consisting of Project Management, Engineering, Controls, and Field Services resources, utilizing both direct and dotted-line reporting structures. Acts as the primary integrator between customers (utilities and EPCs), Toshiba Japan (as the primary supplier of engineering, equipment, and technical documentation), and internal stakeholders from project award through commissioning and commercial closeout.
Essential Duties
- Lead and manage a cross-functional organization including Project Managers, Engineering, Controls, and Field Services through both direct and matrixed reporting relationships.
- Recruit, hire, develop, and retain a team focused on new STG project support and execution.
- Oversee execution of multi-year new steam turbine, generator, auxiliary, and control system projects from contract award through commissioning and closeout.
- Serve as senior leadership interface with customers, utilities, EPC partners, and Toshiba Japan to ensure alignment from design through commissioning.
- Establish and maintain tools and processes to track action items, contractual obligations, schedules, risks, and resources across multiple concurrent projects.
- Ensure projects meet contractual, technical, schedule, quality, and financial requirements.
- Provide portfolio-level visibility, forecasting, and risk management for dozens of concurrent projects with varying timelines.
- Drive continuous improvement in project execution practices, governance, and cross-functional coordination.
- Periodically travel to Japan to support supplier coordination, technical alignment, and relationship development.
- Operate independently as a self-starter while aligning with executive leadership and corporate strategy.
Education and Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field required. Master’s Degree Preferred.
- 10+ years of experience managing large-scale, complex industrial or power generation projects.
- Demonstrated leadership of cross-functional and matrixed teams.
- Strong understanding of engineered-to-order equipment execution including engineering, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning.
- Experience working with international suppliers and engineering organizations, preferably Japan-based.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong business and financial acumen related to long-duration project execution.
- PMP or equivalent project management certification preferred.
Work Location/Travel
Primary location: West Allis, WI with a hybrid work schedule.
Domestic and international travel required; periodic travel to Japan expected.
