Target health systems over small practices
Large hospital networks and academic medical centers have established immigration infrastructure and sponsor APRNs far more reliably than small private practices. Focus your search on employers with a documented history of H-1B or EB-3 filings for nursing roles.
Confirm your NP or CRNA license transfers
State licensure requirements vary significantly for APRNs. Before accepting an offer with sponsorship, confirm the state board will grant you a license given your training background. Some states require additional supervised hours or a separate exam for international graduates.
Get your credentials evaluated early
If you trained outside the U.S., USCIS requires a credential evaluation showing your degree is equivalent to a U.S. master's or doctoral nursing degree. Starting this process before job applications saves weeks and demonstrates readiness to sponsoring employers.
Specialty certification strengthens your petition
Board certification from ANCC or AANA significantly strengthens an H-1B petition for APRN roles. It establishes specialty occupation status clearly and reduces the risk of a Request for Evidence challenging whether the position meets the degree requirement threshold.
Browse visa-sponsorship APRN roles on Migrate Mate
Not every employer advertising an APRN opening is willing to sponsor a visa. Migrate Mate filters specifically for sponsoring employers, saving you from applying to roles where sponsorship was never on the table and the offer falls through at the last stage.

Find Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Aprn JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does an APRN role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, APRN positions generally qualify as specialty occupations because they require at minimum a master's degree in nursing or a related clinical field. USCIS has approved H-1B petitions for nurse practitioners, CRNAs, CNSs, and CNMs. Petitions supported by board certification and a job description tied to a specific specialty carry a lower risk of receiving a Request for Evidence on specialty occupation grounds.
What visa types do employers commonly use to sponsor APRNs?
The two most common are H-1B and EB-3. H-1B is a nonimmigrant work visa requiring annual lottery selection, though cap-exempt employers like nonprofit hospitals and universities can file year-round. EB-3 is an immigrant visa requiring PERM labor certification but leads directly to a green card. Some employers use both pathways, starting on H-1B while simultaneously pursuing EB-3.
Can an internationally trained APRN get sponsored in the U.S.?
Yes, but there are credential and licensure hurdles. USCIS requires a credential evaluation confirming your foreign degree is equivalent to a U.S. master's or higher nursing degree. You also need a valid state APRN license, which some states will not issue until you complete additional supervised practice or pass U.S.-specific examinations. Starting both processes before your job search puts you in the strongest position.
Which APRN specialties have the strongest visa sponsorship demand?
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners see particularly high sponsorship demand due to a nationwide shortage of mental health providers. CRNAs, neonatal NPs, and acute care NPs working in ICU or surgical settings also attract strong employer sponsorship interest. Rural health systems and federally qualified health centers often sponsor more aggressively than urban competitors because they face harder recruiting markets.
How do I find APRN jobs where the employer will actually sponsor a visa?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this. Most general job boards list APRN openings without filtering for sponsorship willingness, meaning you can spend weeks in a hiring process before learning the employer won't sponsor. Migrate Mate shows only roles where employers are open to visa sponsorship, so you can focus your applications on opportunities that are actually viable.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Aprn jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
