Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as an Azure Engineer
Target employers with active Azure practices
Large consulting firms, cloud-native companies, and enterprises running Azure migrations file the most H-1B petitions for cloud engineers. Focusing your search here significantly improves your odds of finding a willing sponsor.
Frame your role as a specialty occupation
USCIS requires that your position demand a specific bachelor's degree or higher. Emphasize cloud architecture, infrastructure design, or DevOps engineering to distinguish your role from general IT support, which faces higher scrutiny.
Get Microsoft certifications before applying
Holding AZ-104, AZ-305, or AZ-900 certifications strengthens your petition by demonstrating specialized knowledge. Employers view certified candidates as lower-risk hires, which can make the sponsorship conversation easier to initiate.
Prepare your degree equivalency documentation early
If your computer science or engineering degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation done before employers ask. Having it ready removes a common friction point that slows sponsorship decisions.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsorship-open roles
Not every Azure Engineer job listing mentions visa sponsorship upfront. Migrate Mate surfaces roles from employers already on record sponsoring cloud and infrastructure roles, saving you time filtering out dead ends.

Find Azure Engineer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does an Azure Engineer role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes. Azure Engineer positions consistently qualify as H-1B specialty occupations because they require at minimum a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related engineering field. USCIS has a strong approval record for cloud infrastructure roles where the job duties involve architecture design, deployment, and systems integration rather than general technical support.
What degree do I need to get sponsored as an Azure Engineer?
Most employers require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, electrical engineering, or a closely related field. For H-1B purposes, the degree must be relevant to the specific duties of the role. If your degree is in an unrelated field, three years of specialized work experience can substitute for each missing year of education, though this path requires stronger documentation.
How does the H-1B lottery affect Azure Engineers specifically?
Azure Engineers are subject to the same 85,000-cap H-1B lottery as most other roles. In recent years, selection rates have hovered around 25%, meaning roughly three in four registrations go unselected. Australian citizens can bypass this entirely using the E-3 visa, which has the same specialty occupation requirements but no lottery and a 10,500 annual cap that has never been filled.
Which employers are most likely to sponsor Azure Engineers?
Cloud consulting firms such as Accenture, Cognizant, and Infosys file large volumes of H-1B petitions for Azure roles. Large enterprises running Azure-heavy infrastructure, including financial services and healthcare companies, also sponsor regularly. Startups are less predictable sponsors. You can browse verified sponsoring employers for Azure Engineer roles directly on Migrate Mate.
Can I switch employers mid-visa as an Azure Engineer?
Yes, with some planning required. On an H-1B, your new employer must file a transfer petition before you start working for them. Your status is protected while that petition is pending under H-1B portability rules, provided your previous H-1B was approved and you've maintained lawful status. On an E-3, your new employer files a fresh LCA and you typically need a new visa stamp if traveling internationally.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Azure Engineer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
