Position Title: Counselor – Behavioral Health (MS Senior Licensed) (Hybrid)
Department: Psychiatry Dpt BHS - Suburban Outpt
Location: 1701 N. Senate Blvd., Indianapolis, IN 46202 (East Washington Medical Group)
Shift: Full-Time, Days (Hybrid: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote)

Position Overview: The Senior Licensed Counselor provides advanced clinical services in a supportive, multidisciplinary environment. This role involves individual, group, and family counseling, discharge planning, utilization review, and crisis intervention. The Counselor collaborates with healthcare teams, community agencies, and protective services to ensure patients receive safe, timely, and resource-rich care. The role also includes supervising practicum interns and licensed staff, managing complex cases such as abuse, neglect, guardianship, and high-risk crises.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate patient involvement in treatment, education, and recovery through individual, group, and family counseling.
• Conduct psychosocial assessments evaluating prior functioning, support systems, reactions to illness, and coping strategies.
• Provide mental health assessments upon physician referral; deliver therapeutic interventions including crisis and addiction assessments.
• Support complex discharge planning, including end-of-life, guardianship, foster care, adoption, and mental health placements.
• Serve as the primary point person for cases involving child abuse/neglect, adult/elderly abuse/neglect, institutional abuse, and domestic violence.
• Act as liaison between IU Health, protective teams, law enforcement, and community agencies.
• Lead clinical interventions in dangerous or potentially dangerous situations, utilizing de-escalation and crisis management techniques.
• Support patients and families with emotional, social, and financial counseling related to illness/disability.
• Provide clinical supervision to interns and license-eligible staff (LSW, LMHC-A, LMFT-A).
• Model caring practices and interpret complex patient/family needs to team members.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment, ensuring daily activities and programming are effectively delivered.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, schools, law enforcement, and social services.
• Support and lead efforts in crisis intervention, de-escalation, and safety planning.
• Utilize Electronic Medical Records and MS Office tools proficiently.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field.
• Current Indiana licensure as an LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, LCAC, or HSPP.
• 5-7 years of relevant post-Master’s experience in healthcare, mental health, or community settings.
• Certification in crisis intervention may be required.
• BLS certification may be required.
• Extensive knowledge of psychosocial assessment, therapeutic counseling, and crisis intervention techniques.
• Familiarity with evidence-based practices such as CBT, MI, and DBT.
• Knowledge of legal mandates related to child and adult protective services.
• Strong understanding of human development principles across the lifespan.
• Ability to manage high-risk situations with de-escalation and safety techniques.
• Proven ability to develop collaborative working relationships with community agencies, law enforcement, schools, and healthcare teams.
• Basic proficiency in Electronic Medical Records and MS Office Suite.
