Job Title: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Reports to: Board of Directors
Mission: At United Way of North Central Ohio, we bring people, organizations, and resources together to create solutions that improve the lives of every person in every community in our region.
Purpose: The CEO serves as the chief executive, providing visionary leadership to execute Board policies and strategic direction. This role drives resource mobilization, fosters community partnerships, and ensures measurable progress toward improving lives and community vitality across the UWNCO service region.
This position is comprised of seven key areas of responsibility and oversight:
1. Administration and Budgeting
2. Campaign Management and Donor Relations
3. Marketing
4. Community Engagement and Volunteerism
5. Community Investment and Impact
6. Advocacy
7. Strategic Leadership and Organizational Excellence
Administrative and Budgeting:
- Oversee overall organizational administration, operations, and office activities.
- Recruit, employ, supervise, develop, and evaluate employees (including but not limited to Development Director, Operations Director, Communications Director, and Community Impact Director) and other staff.
- Develop, recommend, and implement the annual operating budget and multi-year financial plan for Board approval.
- Serve as ex-officio (non-voting) member of the Board of Directors and all committees, providing strategic advice and counsel.
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and United Way Worldwide standards, including risk management and best governance practices.
- Represent UWNCO at community, regional, and state functions as the primary ambassador.
Campaign Management and Donor Relations:
- Provide executive leadership and strategic oversight for the annual fundraising campaign, including goal setting, strategy development, and performance monitoring.
- Cultivate and steward major donors, corporate partners, and key leadership givers.
- Oversee recruitment, training, and support of campaign volunteers, advisory councils, and leadership giving circles.
- Direct the planning, execution, and evaluation of campaign events, processes, and related communications.
Marketing:
- Ensure all public communications, branding, and marketing efforts are professional, consistent with UWW standards, mission-aligned, and impactful.
- Oversee development and production of marketing materials, digital presence, media relations, and donor stewardship communications (in collaboration with the Communications Director).
Community Engagement and Volunteerism:
- Lead strategic initiatives to build community engagement, volunteer recruitment, training, and management.
- Foster partnerships and advocate for community initiatives that align with UWNCO priorities.
Community Investment and Impact:
- Provide visionary leadership for the Community Impact agenda, including needs assessment, outcome measurement, and investment strategies to drive measurable change.
- Oversee the Community Impact process, including grantmaking, partner agency relations, performance tracking, and reporting.
- Supervise grants management functions (application review, allocation decisions, compliance monitoring, and impact evaluation) in collaboration with the Community Impact Director.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with funded partners, agencies, and stakeholders to advance shared goals.
Advocacy:
- Serve as the primary advocate and convener on issues impacting quality of life in the region (e.g., successful children, healthy families and self-sufficient residents).
- Convene community leaders to address emerging human service needs and collaborate on solutions.
Strategic Leadership and Organizational Excellence:
- Develop and execute the strategic plan in partnership with the Board.
- Promote a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging across staff, volunteers, and partners.
- Monitor organizational performance, innovate programs, and ensure sustainability and adaptability.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with preference for a master’s degree in non-profit administration, or community development or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and experience in development, project management, including identification, tracking of performance measures, and understanding of development strategies & philanthropy trends.
Experience: Minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience with at least three years in a leadership role with a non-profit organization. Proven success in administration, fundraising/resource development, community impact, and team leadership.
Skills and Attributes: Strong active listening, coordination and facilitation skills, which build effective relationships with stakeholders. Proficiency in data-driven decision-making, digital communication tools, change management and commitment to DEI principles. Able to lead, motivate and inspire others. Must think clearly, analytically and strategically. Makes decisions, takes responsibility and is results oriented.
A valid Ohio driver’s license, insurance and vehicle required, as well as a willingness to travel when necessary for training and meetings throughout UWNCO service region.
