Chief Operating Officer Jobs in USA with Visa Sponsorship
Chief Operating Officer roles attract H-1B visa, O-1A, and EB-1C sponsorship from U.S. employers, but competition is high and visa approvals depend heavily on demonstrating executive-level authority, not just senior management experience. For detailed occupation requirements, see the O*NET profile.

Join us in this venture where AI and data meet ingenuity, and together, we will forge the path to a smarter, more connected industrial future.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
How you’ll demonstrate Ownership: As the Revenue Operations Director, you will own selected global revenue operations processes and work closely with regional presidents to identify areas of stagnation and design targeted processes to address them. You will architect and scale the global engine that powers our "Land-to-Expand" model, ensuring every dollar of potential industrial value is identified, forecasted, and captured through AI-driven precision and operational excellence.
What You’ll Do
- AI-driven forecasting and pipeline health
- Own the cadence for forecasting and pipeline calls using Clari. While the VP sets the overall strategy, you are responsible for data accuracy and ensuring clear prioritization.
- Use AI tools (e.g. Clari, Claude Code, Gemini) to generate rolling, real-time forecast scenarios and continuously monitor and score pipeline health.
-
Turn real-time, AI-scored deal data into clear narratives for executive leadership, proactively highlighting risk and helping to mitigate forecast variances well ahead of quarter-end.
-
Territory management
- Lead the territory setting process by defining criteria for geographic and vertical assignments.
-
Ensure each representative has a fair, data-driven path to achieving quota.
-
Funnel, market, and deal analytics
- Build and maintain models that show how field activities convert to revenue.
- When a territory underperforms, analyze contributing factors and refine the model and recommendations accordingly.
The Impact you bring to Cognite
- You foster a culture of shared responsibility by leading complex projects across multiple teams.
- You influence team goals by propelling department-wide goals and motivating cross-functional teams.
- You solve complex, ambiguous problems independently by pushing boundaries and designing new ways of operating.
- Executive Presence: You command the room when presenting to senior leaders, turning raw data into high-conviction narratives that drive immediate action.
- Strategic Growth Mindset: You don’t just report on the past; you build predictive models that identify the next $100M opportunity within our existing customer base.
- Change Management: You excel at navigating a fast-scaling organization, bringing global teams along as you implement new, AI-integrated workflows.
LOCATION
To align with Cognite’s hub strategy, this role is based in Houston, Phoenix, or Boston. You will support global teams across multiple time zones. Depending on business needs and the quarter's stage, extended hours beyond the normal business day may be required. Evening and/or weekend work may be needed occasionally.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 7–10 years of experience in Revenue Operations or Sales Operations, with a proven track record of scaling core revenue processes in a high-growth SaaS environment.
- Expert-level proficiency in the Revenue Tech Stack: Salesforce, Clari, and a demonstrated ability to use AI tools (e.g., Gemini, Claude) for deep-dive analysis and automation.
- Global Operational Experience: Proven ability to manage complex territory and commission structures across multiple international regions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Data Visualization Mastery: Experience with Power BI or similar tools to build executive-level dashboards that visualize the end-to-end "Land-to-Expand" funnel.
- Industrial Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with the digital transformation needs of heavy assets industries (Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Power & Utilities).
- Advanced Degree: MBA or equivalent experience in a highly analytical field.

Establish clear organizational authority
COO visa petitions succeed when the job description reflects direct control over entire departments or functions. Vague titles like 'senior operations leader' without documented reporting structures weaken H-1B specialty occupation and EB-1C executive classification arguments significantly.
Target companies with prior sponsorship history
Established multinationals and late-stage startups have immigration counsel in place and understood processes. First-time sponsors at the COO level face longer timelines and higher legal costs, so prioritizing experienced sponsors materially improves your odds of a smooth process.
Build your O-1A case alongside the job search
COOs with board memberships, published industry commentary, keynote speaking credits, or major contract awards may qualify for O-1A extraordinary ability. This visa bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely, making it worth documenting achievements systematically before your first interview.
Understand the EB-1C multinational manager path
If you've held a managerial or executive role abroad with the same company for at least one year in the past three, EB-1C offers a direct green card route. Many COO candidates miss this because they don't realize prior overseas employment qualifies.
Negotiate legal fee coverage upfront
Immigration attorneys for executive-level sponsorship commonly charge more than standard H-1B filings due to complexity. Raising this during offer negotiation is standard at the COO level. Employers who hesitate signal they haven't done this before or aren't fully committed to sponsoring you.
Document your specialty occupation argument clearly
H-1B approval for COO roles requires demonstrating the position requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in a specific specialty. Operations strategy, business administration, or supply chain management degrees typically satisfy this, but generic management experience alone usually does not.

Can a Chief Operating Officer role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, but it requires careful documentation. USCIS must be convinced the COO role is a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as business administration, operations management, or engineering. Broadly written job descriptions that emphasize general leadership without field-specific degree requirements are the most common reason COO H-1B petitions face RFEs or denials.
Is the EB-1C green card a realistic path for COOs?
For COOs joining a U.S. subsidiary, affiliate, or branch of a company where they previously held a managerial or executive role abroad for at least one year within the past three years, EB-1C is one of the most direct green card routes available. It skips PERM labor certification entirely, which makes it significantly faster than EB-2 or EB-3 pathways for qualifying candidates.
What visa options exist for COO candidates who don't win the H-1B lottery?
O-1A extraordinary ability is the strongest alternative for COOs with a documented track record of industry recognition, board roles, major deal leadership, or high compensation relative to peers. E-3 applies if you hold Australian citizenship. TN applies for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose background fits qualifying categories. Each of these bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely.
How do I find COO roles where employers are genuinely open to visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship eligibility, which removes the guesswork of approaching companies that won't sponsor executive hires. COO sponsorship is less common than mid-level roles, so filtering by sponsorship willingness upfront saves significant time. You can browse current COO openings directly on Migrate Mate.
Does a three-year Australian bachelor's degree satisfy the H-1B degree requirement for a COO role?
Generally yes. USCIS and most immigration attorneys treat Australian three-year bachelor's degrees as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for H-1B purposes, provided the field is relevant to the COO position. A credential evaluation from a recognized agency such as NACES member organizations is typically included in the petition to formally document equivalency.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Chief Operating Officer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
