Target companies with a sponsorship track record
Large CPG, technology, and healthcare distributors sponsor Directors of National Accounts most consistently. Focus your search on employers who have filed H-1B LCAs for sales leadership roles before, not just entry-level positions.
Align your degree to the role description
H-1B eligibility requires a specialty occupation. A degree in business administration, marketing, or supply chain management directly tied to national account management strengthens your petition and reduces the risk of an USCIS challenge.
Quantify your account portfolio in applications
Sponsoring employers need to justify the hire to USCIS. Candidates who can document revenue managed, number of national accounts, and contract renewal rates make a stronger case for why the role requires specialized expertise.
Understand the LCA wage requirement before negotiating
Your employer must certify your compensation meets the prevailing wage for your location and job title before USCIS approves the petition. Review the Department of Labor's prevailing wage for your metro area early in the process.
Ask about internal transfer visas if joining a multinational
If the company has international offices where you've worked previously, an L-1A intracompany transferee visa may be available. This bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely and is worth discussing with the employer's immigration counsel.
Time your job search around the H-1B cap cycle
H-1B registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. Starting your Director of National Accounts job search between October and February gives you time to secure an offer before the registration window opens.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Director of National Accounts role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, provided the position is structured as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as business, marketing, or supply chain management. Generalist sales roles where any degree qualifies can face USCIS scrutiny, so the job description must clearly establish a degree requirement tied to the specific duties of the role.
What visa types are commonly sponsored for this role?
H-1B visa is the most common path for Directors of National Accounts, particularly in technology, healthcare, and consumer goods. Candidates transferring from a foreign parent or subsidiary company may qualify for the L-1A managerial visa. Australian citizens have access to the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and significantly shorter processing times than the H-1B visa.
Where can I find employers actively sponsoring this role?
Migrate Mate is the recommended platform for finding Director of National Accounts roles with confirmed visa sponsorship. Most general job boards don't filter by sponsorship willingness, so you end up applying to employers who won't sponsor. Migrate Mate focuses specifically on sponsoring employers, which saves significant time during a job search with visa deadlines.
Does my degree field matter for H-1B approval in this role?
It matters significantly. USCIS looks at whether your degree field directly relates to the duties in the job description. A degree in business administration, marketing, strategic management, or supply chain management will support most Director of National Accounts petitions. A degree in an unrelated field, even if you have extensive sales experience, can trigger a Request for Evidence.
Can relevant work experience substitute for a degree in this role?
For H-1B purposes, three years of specialized work experience can substitute for one year of bachelor's-level education. If you hold a two-year degree plus six or more years of progressively senior national accounts experience, your employer's immigration attorney can build a petition around that equivalency. This path is viable but requires stronger documentation than a direct degree match.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Director Of National Accounts jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
