How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Director Of Professional Services
Target enterprise software and SaaS employers
Companies like Salesforce, ServiceNow, and Oracle regularly sponsor Director of Professional Services roles. Enterprise software firms have established immigration programs and are far more likely to file H-1B or L-1A petitions than smaller consulting shops.
Understand the specialty occupation standard for your role
USCIS requires that a Director of Professional Services position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Roles tied to a technical product or platform, software implementation, cloud services, clear this bar more cleanly than generalist consulting director positions.
L-1A is a strong alternative if you're transferring internally
If your current employer has U.S. operations, an intracompany transfer on an L-1A visa bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely. Director-level roles managing a team satisfy the managerial or executive capacity requirement USCIS looks for in L-1A petitions.
Ask about green card sponsorship timelines upfront
Many employers sponsoring Directors of Professional Services will initiate EB-1C or EB-2 PERM processes after one to two years. Clarify the company's policy before accepting an offer, some firms sponsor only after a probationary period or headcount approval.
Highlight P&L ownership and team leadership in your application
Sponsorship approvals hinge on the job description matching visa requirements. Emphasizing budget ownership, team size, and cross-functional leadership strengthens the petition for both H-1B specialty occupation and L-1A managerial capacity classifications.
Premium processing reduces uncertainty during a job transition
If you're switching employers and need H-1B transfer approval quickly, ask the new employer to use premium processing. USCIS adjudicates premium petitions within 15 business days, which reduces the gap between your offer acceptance and authorized start date.

Can a Director of Professional Services role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, but the job description matters significantly. USCIS approves H-1B petitions for this role when the position requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field, typically business administration, computer science, or a related discipline, and involves complex, specialized work. Generalist director roles without a defined degree requirement are more likely to receive a Request for Evidence.
What visa options exist for Director of Professional Services roles besides the H-1B?
The L-1A is the strongest alternative for candidates already employed by a multinational company, since it covers managers and executives transferred to a U.S. office and bypasses the H-1B lottery. The O-1A is available if you have documented extraordinary achievement in your field. EB-1C provides a green card path specifically for multinational managers, and some employers pursue EB-2 PERM sponsorship for long-term hires.
Do I need a master's degree to get sponsored for this role?
A bachelor's degree is the baseline requirement for H-1B specialty occupation, a master's degree is not mandatory, though it strengthens a petition. Many employers hiring at the Director level prefer an MBA or a technical master's, but equivalent work experience can substitute in some cases. USCIS applies a three-for-one rule: three years of specialized experience can replace one year of formal education.
Which employers are most likely to sponsor a Director of Professional Services?
Enterprise software, cloud infrastructure, and managed services companies sponsor this role most consistently. Firms with large implementation or customer success operations, particularly those serving Fortune 500 clients, have established immigration programs and recurring hiring need at the director level. You can browse currently sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate, which filters job listings by visa sponsorship availability.
How does an employer sponsor a green card for a Director of Professional Services?
The most common pathways are EB-1C for multinational managers and EB-2 with PERM labor certification. EB-1C is faster and avoids the PERM process but requires you to have worked for the sponsoring company abroad. EB-2 PERM requires the employer to test the U.S. labor market and demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available. Both paths typically begin after at least one year of employment.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Director Of Professional Services jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
