Target companies with dedicated revenue functions
SaaS and technology companies are the most consistent sponsors for Director of Revenue roles. They have established HR and legal infrastructure to handle H-1B petitions and are accustomed to sponsoring senior operational and revenue leadership positions.
Emphasize quantifiable revenue impact in your application
USCIS specialty occupation approvals for this role depend on demonstrating that the position requires specialized knowledge. Concrete metrics, pipeline ownership figures, and cross-functional scope strengthen both your application and the employer's H-1B petition.
Understand how your degree field affects eligibility
A degree in business administration, finance, economics, or marketing directly supports the specialty occupation argument. Degrees in unrelated fields require additional evidence, such as progressive experience and advanced coursework, to satisfy USCIS requirements for this title.
Ask about green card timelines during the offer stage
Many companies that sponsor the H-1B will also sponsor EB-2 or EB-3 green cards for Director-level roles. Asking about PERM sponsorship timelines and whether the company has a policy for senior hires is appropriate and expected at this level.
Clarify whether the role is cap-subject or cap-exempt
If the hiring company is a university, nonprofit, or government research entity, your H-1B petition may be cap-exempt, meaning no lottery. This significantly reduces timing uncertainty and is worth confirming with the employer's immigration counsel before accepting an offer.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsoring employers
Migrate Mate filters Director of Revenue jobs by employers with active sponsorship history, saving you from applying to companies that list the title but have no infrastructure or willingness to navigate the H-1B or E-3 visa process for senior hires.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Director of Revenue role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It can, but the burden of proof is higher than for roles like software engineer. USCIS looks for whether the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Director of Revenue roles that oversee pricing strategy, forecasting systems, or RevOps functions tend to qualify more cleanly than generalist revenue management positions. The employer's job description and your credentials both matter significantly.
What degree do I need to get H-1B sponsorship as a Director of Revenue?
A bachelor's degree or higher in business administration, finance, economics, or a closely related field is the standard baseline. Degrees in unrelated fields are not automatic disqualifiers, but the employer will need to build a stronger case showing the position requires your specific educational background. MBA holders applying for Director of Revenue roles generally face fewer complications in the specialty occupation determination.
Are Director of Revenue roles commonly sponsored for H-1B visas?
Yes, particularly in SaaS, cloud infrastructure, and fintech. Companies at Series B stage and beyond frequently sponsor senior go-to-market roles including revenue leadership. Sponsorship is less common at early-stage startups that lack immigration legal counsel. Browsing Director of Revenue listings on Migrate Mate will show you which employers have active sponsorship histories so you can focus your applications efficiently.
Can I get a green card sponsored as a Director of Revenue?
Yes. Director-level roles typically qualify under EB-2 (which requires a job that normally requires an advanced degree or exceptional ability) or EB-3 (professional category, bachelor's degree). PERM labor certification is the standard first step. Processing times vary significantly by your country of birth due to per-country annual limits, with Indian and Chinese nationals facing the longest backlogs. Confirming green card sponsorship intent early in negotiations is advisable.
How does the H-1B lottery affect hiring timelines for Director of Revenue positions?
The H-1B lottery runs once per year in March, with a selection rate that has historically been around 25 to 30 percent in recent years. If you're not selected, you'll need to wait for the next cycle or pursue a cap-exempt employer. Some companies use this uncertainty as a reason to delay or withdraw offers for cap-subject candidates. Premium processing, which expedites USCIS adjudication to 15 business days after selection, does not bypass the lottery itself.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Director Of Revenue jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
