How to Get Visa Sponsorship as a Division Manager
Target multinational employers first
Companies with international operations are more likely to sponsor Division Managers because they qualify for L-1A intracompany transfers. These employers already have established immigration programs and understand the filing requirements for managerial roles.
Document your managerial scope clearly
USCIS scrutinizes whether a Division Manager truly supervises staff or primarily performs individual work. Build a paper trail showing direct reports, budget authority, and cross-functional oversight before your employer files the petition.
Clarify your degree field matches the role
H-1B approval requires a specialty occupation tied to a specific degree field. For Division Manager roles, disciplines like business administration, finance, or operations management are the strongest matches. A misaligned degree is a common RFE trigger.
Ask about L-1A eligibility before applying
If you've managed a division for a related foreign entity for at least one year in the past three years, you may qualify for an L-1A transfer. This bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely and has a direct path to the EB-1C green card.
Prepare for organizational chart requests
USCIS regularly requests organizational charts for managerial petitions to verify the supervisory structure. Confirm your employer can produce an accurate chart showing your position, direct reports, and where the division sits in the company hierarchy.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Not every company will sponsor a Division Manager. Migrate Mate filters job listings by sponsorship willingness, so you spend time on employers already open to filing rather than cold-applying and asking about sponsorship at the interview stage.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Division Manager role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, but only if the position meets the specialty occupation standard, meaning it normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Division Manager roles often qualify under business administration, finance, or a related discipline, but USCIS will assess whether the actual job duties demand that specialized knowledge rather than general management experience.
What visa is best for a Division Manager transferring from an overseas office?
The L-1A intracompany transferee visa is the strongest option. It's designed for managers and executives moving from a related foreign entity to a U.S. office, requires no prevailing wage filing, and bypasses the H-1B lottery. You need at least one year of managerial employment with the related entity within the past three years to qualify.
How does USCIS evaluate whether a Division Manager truly qualifies as a manager?
USCIS applies the INA definition of a manager, which requires supervising professional-level employees or a function, controlling day-to-day operations, and having authority to hire and fire. If most of your time is spent on individual contributor tasks rather than managing people or functions, USCIS may issue a Request for Evidence or deny the petition.
What degree do I need to get sponsored as a Division Manager?
For H-1B purposes, most Division Manager petitions are supported by a bachelor's degree or higher in business administration, management, finance, operations, or a closely related field. The degree must be in a specific discipline tied to the job duties. A general liberal arts degree without a clear connection to the division's function is harder to defend and increases RFE risk.
Where can I find Division Manager jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the best starting point. It lists Division Manager roles from employers already open to sponsoring work visas, which saves you from applying to companies that will decline sponsorship after the interview. You can filter by role type and sponsorship status to focus your search on positions where immigration support is genuinely on the table.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Division Manager jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
