How to Get Visa Sponsorship as an Education Program Manager
Confirm the role qualifies as a specialty occupation
Education Program Manager positions qualify for H-1B sponsorship when they require a specific bachelor's degree, not just any degree. Roles at universities, nonprofits, and edtech companies tend to meet this standard more consistently than generalist program management roles.
Target employers with a track record of sponsorship
Universities, school districts, edtech companies, and federally funded nonprofits sponsor Education Program Managers far more often than private sector employers. Filtering by sponsorship history before applying saves significant time and improves your odds of reaching offer stage.
Align your degree field with the job description
USCIS scrutinizes whether your degree directly relates to the role. A degree in education, curriculum design, instructional technology, or public policy strengthens your petition. Generic business degrees with no educational focus can draw a Request for Evidence.
Highlight program scale and measurable outcomes
Employers sponsoring Education Program Managers want evidence of impact. Document the number of participants served, grant amounts managed, and measurable learning outcomes. Concrete metrics make your petition stronger and help employers justify the sponsorship investment internally.
Ask about sponsorship policy before the final interview round
Many education organizations sponsor selectively, depending on budget cycles and HR capacity. Asking directly after an initial screen, rather than at the offer stage, filters out employers who won't sponsor and avoids wasting weeks in a process that cannot result in an offer.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsoring employers
Migrate Mate lists Education Program Manager roles from employers who have sponsored visas before. Browsing verified sponsorship history before applying focuses your effort on realistic opportunities and significantly reduces the time spent on applications that lead nowhere.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does an Education Program Manager role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS generally considers Education Program Manager a specialty occupation when the employer requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as education, instructional design, or public policy. Roles where any degree is acceptable regardless of field are more likely to face scrutiny or receive a Request for Evidence.
Which visa types are most common for Education Program Managers?
The H-1B is the most common path, particularly for candidates already in the U.S. on OPT or CPT. The O-1A is an option for candidates with documented national recognition, such as published curriculum research or federal grant leadership. The EB-2 NIW can apply if your work has broad national educational impact, though it requires a stronger evidentiary record.
What degree do I need for an employer to sponsor my visa in this role?
Most sponsoring employers require at least a bachelor's degree in education, curriculum and instruction, public policy, nonprofit management, or a closely related field. A master's degree is common at universities and federally funded organizations. If your degree is in an unrelated field, some employers will accept equivalent experience under the three-years-of-experience-per-year-of-education rule, but this requires explicit documentation.
Are education nonprofits and universities realistic sponsoring employers?
Yes, and they are among the most reliable. Universities are often cap-exempt for H-1B purposes, meaning they can file at any time of year without entering the lottery. Nonprofits affiliated with higher education or government research may also qualify for cap-exempt status. This significantly improves your chances compared to for-profit employers subject to the annual H-1B cap and lottery.
How do I find Education Program Manager jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
The most efficient approach is to search specifically for employers with a verified sponsorship history rather than applying broadly and hoping. Migrate Mate lists Education Program Manager roles from employers who have sponsored visas before, so you can filter by sponsorship from the start. This avoids spending weeks in hiring processes at organizations that do not have the infrastructure or intent to sponsor.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Education Program Manager jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
