Head Of Business Development Jobs in USA with Visa Sponsorship
Head of Business Development roles in the U.S. regularly come with H-1B visa, O-1 visa, or L-1 visa sponsorship, particularly at growth-stage tech companies and multinational firms. Competition for sponsored roles is real, but Australian nationals can sidestep the H-1B lottery entirely through the E-3 visa. For detailed occupation requirements, see the O*NET profile.

Target companies with a sponsorship track record
Search OFLC disclosure data to confirm an employer has filed Labor Condition Applications before. Companies that have sponsored Business Development roles in the past are far more likely to do it again than those with no history.
Frame your role as a specialty occupation from the start
H-1B approval for business development hinges on demonstrating the role requires a specific bachelor's degree, not just any degree. Come prepared with a detailed job description tying the position to a specialized field like finance, economics, or international business.
Make the L-1A your opening pitch if you're transferring
If you currently work for a multinational and are moving to a U.S. office in a managerial capacity, the L-1A visa avoids the lottery entirely. Internal transfers in senior business development roles are a strong fit for this category.
Position your network and revenue impact in dollar terms
Sponsoring employers need to justify the cost internally. Quantify your pipeline value, partnerships closed, and revenue contribution in your resume and offer discussions. A clear business case makes the sponsorship decision easier for hiring managers.
Raise sponsorship before the final interview round
Waiting until an offer is made to ask about sponsorship wastes both sides' time. Confirm the company sponsors in the second or third round, before references and compensation discussions begin. Most experienced hiring teams expect the question.

Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship availability, saving you from screening dozens of postings manually. For Head of Business Development roles, filtering by sponsorship type lets you focus only on employers already set up to hire internationally.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Head of Business Development role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, but it requires careful documentation. USCIS treats business development roles as a gray area because the position can be filled by candidates with varying degree backgrounds. The employer must demonstrate the role specifically requires a bachelor's degree in a related field, such as business administration, economics, finance, or international relations, and that a generic degree won't do.
What visa options exist for Head of Business Development roles beyond the H-1B?
Australian citizens can pursue the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and processes through the consulate in weeks rather than months. The L-1A is viable for internal transfers at multinationals coming in at a managerial level. Candidates with a significant track record of business impact, media coverage, or industry recognition may also qualify for the O-1A under the extraordinary ability category.
How do I find Head of Business Development jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate specializes in exactly this, listing roles that include visa sponsorship so you're not guessing from a generic job description. Growth-stage tech companies, consulting firms, and multinationals with dedicated global hiring programs are the most consistent sponsors for senior business development roles.
Does the Head of Business Development title affect H-1B approval odds?
It can. USCIS has historically scrutinized broad business titles more heavily than technical ones, issuing Requests for Evidence asking employers to prove the specialty occupation requirement is met. Approval rates improve when the job description is narrowly scoped, the degree requirement is clearly tied to the role's functions, and the employer provides evidence that comparable positions in the industry require the same credentials.
Do I need an MBA or specific degree to get sponsored for this role?
Not necessarily an MBA, but you do need a bachelor's degree or higher in a field directly related to the job duties. For H-1B visa purposes, a degree in business, economics, finance, marketing, or international business typically supports a Head of Business Development petition. If your degree is in an unrelated field, extensive specialized experience can sometimes supplement it, though this makes the petition harder to approve.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Head Of Business Development jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
