Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding IT Architect Jobs
Lead with enterprise scale, not just technical depth
Sponsoring employers want architects who've designed systems at scale. Quantify your impact: nodes managed, uptime achieved, teams led. This framing directly supports the specialty occupation argument USCIS evaluates during H-1B adjudication.
Clarify your degree field early in applications
IT Architect roles require a bachelor's in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field. If your degree is in a different discipline, address it upfront with a credential evaluation and evidence of equivalent specialized experience.
Target companies with established immigration programs
Large technology firms, consulting houses like Accenture and Deloitte, and financial institutions run structured sponsorship processes. They have immigration counsel on retainer, which reduces delays and increases H-1B petition quality significantly.
Understand that L-1A is a realistic parallel path
If you're currently employed by a multinational company abroad, an L-1A intracompany transfer may be faster than H-1B. IT Architects who manage teams or lead units often qualify as managers or executives under L-1A criteria.
Get your credentials evaluated before applying
Non-U.S. degrees require a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved organization. For IT Architects with three-year bachelor's degrees, a detailed equivalency report strengthens the specialty occupation case and reduces the risk of an RFE.
Use Migrate Mate to find roles already open to sponsorship
Not every IT Architect listing makes sponsorship eligibility obvious. Migrate Mate filters for employers actively willing to sponsor, saving you from applying to roles where sponsorship was never on the table to begin with.

Find IT Architect JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does an IT Architect role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, IT Architect consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation because the role theoretically and practically requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related engineering discipline. USCIS has approved thousands of H-1B petitions for this title. The key is ensuring your job description reflects design-level complexity, not generalist IT support, and that your employer's offer letter specifies a relevant degree requirement.
What degree do I need to get H-1B sponsorship as an IT Architect?
A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information systems, software engineering, or a closely related technical field is the standard requirement. Degrees in unrelated fields may still qualify if you have a three-for-one experience substitution: three years of specialized work experience for each year of missing education. A credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator is required for non-U.S. degrees.
Are IT Architect jobs subject to the H-1B lottery?
Most are, unless the hiring employer qualifies as a cap-exempt organization such as a university, nonprofit research institution, or government research entity. The vast majority of corporate IT Architect positions at tech companies, consulting firms, and financial institutions are cap-subject, meaning your petition enters the annual lottery with approximately 85,000 available slots. Premium processing is available to expedite USCIS review once selected.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if I change IT Architect jobs?
Yes. H-1B portability allows you to start working for a new employer once the transfer petition is filed, without waiting for approval, as long as you've been maintaining valid H-1B status. Your new employer files a fresh I-129 petition. The specialty occupation and degree requirements are reassessed for the new role, so ensure the new job description still clearly requires a relevant technical degree.
Where can I find IT Architect jobs that are open to visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this. It surfaces IT Architect roles from employers who have actively sponsored visas, so you're not guessing whether a company will consider sponsorship. Filtering by sponsorship eligibility upfront means your applications go to employers already familiar with the H-1B process, which meaningfully improves your conversion rate from application to interview.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored IT Architect jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
