Position Summary
The Network & UC Administrator is responsible for providing technical assistance, support, and advice to users, as well as day-to-day administration, maintenance, and support of the UIW network across multiple locations on multiple UIW campuses. This position communicates technical information to technical support entities and non-technical network users, students, and other personnel with a strong customer service focus. The Network & UC Administrator reports to the Network and Unified Communications Manager.
This position requires the ability to successfully acquire military clearance to access UIW systems/employees located at the local military bases of Ft. Sam Houston JBSA, Lackland AFB, and Randolph AFB.

Essential Duties
- Collaborate with all stakeholders, vendors, students, and other community members to provide timely and effective solutions to problems and requests for service.
- Provide administration and other assigned tasks on the following network systems: Both on-premises and cloud-based wireless network controllers, network monitoring and management tools, firewalls, IP Address Managers (IPAM), DHCP, and DNS infrastructure.
- Provide administration and support for cloud-based VoiP and unified communications platforms.
- Engineer, install, monitor, and maintain the student residence hall network equipment, including routers, switches, access points, cabling, and supporting systems to optimize effectiveness and to provide high-performance, quality service.
- Proactively document and respond to alerts to resolve performance problems; perform regular ongoing review and analysis of performance data to identify current problems and proactively detect potential future performance problems.
- Independently and collaboratively troubleshoot and interpret complex problems and provide technical support and root-cause analysis for network hardware and associated systems such as switches, routers, wireless access points, communications systems, and controllers.
- Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and technologies.
- Proactively create broad and detailed usage reports for leadership, planning events, and other activities as required.
- Produce and maintain up-to-date documentation and drawings of network systems infrastructure, architectural documents, procedures, policies, and workflows.
- Provide training across organizational departments to support services, junior staff, and end users, including students and interns. This includes developing training documentation.
- Gather user requirements and identify, predict, interpret, and evaluate system requirements.
- Analyze equipment performance records to determine the need for repair, upgrades, or replacement.
- Maintain logs, maintenance and repair records, and system documentation.
- Research new technology and implement or recommend its implementation.
- Coordinate with vendors and University personnel to facilitate purchases.
- Create, log, update, and close trouble tickets within the university’s ticketing system.
- Participate in capacity planning, support the creation and maintenance of network disaster recovery plans, and proactively monitor local/wireless network performance.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding the information being processed, stored, or accessed on the university’s systems.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Well-versed in core networking concepts, network monitoring, and troubleshooting LANs, WANs, VPN solutions, routers, switches, virtualized and physical appliances.
